Shearwater and the Poseidon Solid State Sensor

I assume Shearwater's stance is more like "zero public announcement so far" rather than "zero interest". I have specifically asked several SW people and always gotten silence rather than "no". But beyond that I have no further inside information. There are many challenges beyond the engineering...

What would you want in a $2500 regulator?

I wouldn't want anything more than a limited edition color that shows I spent $2500 on a regulator

    Filament Choice

Generally parts are weakest along layer lines (perfect layer bonding is hard) and when they fail they split between layers. Consider the forces that will be applied to your part in use and try to print them in a way that those forces aren't splitting layers apart. The other thing you want to...

    Filament Choice

PETG is the best "common" filament for general underwater applications. It's easy to work with, recyclable, and achieves excellent strength and layer bonding. ABS used to be king for this, it's alright, but printing stronger watertight parts is just easier with modern PETG offerings. Consider...

    Bonaire once-in-a-lifetime vacation

If you're looking for luxury with technical diving support, Area9 might be worth a look despite their stupid branding. Last I heard they were setting up to offer high-end accommodations plus tech gear rentals. I don't know if they're fully operational yet, or if they are just a dive shop without...

Info MIT Tech Review Article: Deep Diving on Hydrogen

H is not feasible to use shallower than that. It's an extreme option to enable extreme dives. The reason is that H becomes a bit safer (less explosive) in gas mixes with less than ~4% O2. You can't dive such a mix shallow.

    Question Depreciation of used equipment

Good question, I don't have a specific percentage for you, but if you use Ebay's advanced search you can look at sold prices and calculate something. Cameras are particularly hard on this front (even vs other dive gear) because new versions are constantly coming out.

Question Deserved DCS hit even with deco cleared due to high exertion during the dive?

Good writeup. Sounds like a number of small factors added up. Dehydration is a major contributor, well recognized as a root cause in many DCS cases. Being cold at depth then very warm (and exerting yourself) on the surface post-dive would have contributed as well. Both things can increase the...

Advice on attaching various equipment to BP/wing setup

    - Glue on big wetsuit pockets or get tech shorts with big pockets. Pockets should be huge and velcro flap style. - The "how to tie a boltsnap" video tutorial is good - DSMB+Spool go in left pocket, spare mask and wetnotes go in right pocket (if you want to follow GUE's well-thought-out standad...

Question Deep6 Eddy fins in yellow?

Didn't mean to sound frustrated with D6 - all the fin companies have been adding that hole in recent years. I love your stuff and how your company does things. I know the hole is for hanging and not purely cosmetic, though I don't quite understand why the tip-hanging requirement is so important...

DIR- Generic How to choose bolt snap sizes?

https://www.piranhadivemfg.com/item/1-14-Swivel-Bolt-Snap-Special-Design-Thin-Eye-SS-12603 Are a must if you wear thick gloves. They make blind clipping so much easier. (and no the "thin" eye will not break even holding heavy tanks, it's still overbuilt strong stainless)

Question Deep6 Eddy fins in yellow?

if good hydrodynamics matter in fins (which admittedly is a questionable premise) the foil tip is a terrible place for a disruptive feature like that. It almost certainly reduces power and efficiency to provide some users with an unnecessary cosmetic convenience.

    New Halcyon Rebreather?

Hope all you CCR converts have been keeping up your valve drill flexibility! Maybe the BM version has it on the shoulder. Or uses FMCLs.
