    Tobermory Advanced Open Water July

I will be in Toby July 9th - 13th. I will be co-teaching an AOW course, and I think there are a couple of spots still available although we try to keep the classes small so not sure how long those spots will stay open. PM if you want more info.

    KW Open Water Diver Certification

+1 for Tri-City. I am just finishing up my DSAT Tec 50 with Andrew and he is definitely one of the best instructors that I've had through my lengthy dive education. They have a great group of instructors and can take your diving education in just about any direction you want and make sure you...

    Dunderberg Death

I am curious to your 4th point. What gear are you talking about being limited on this type of dive? If I am going to plan a dive to 150' that includes incurring some deco then I doubt I am going to also plan on not having all the gear that I would normally have. However, I may be misreading your...

Diver Dies in Lake Huron on the Dunderberg

Yep - I agree 100%, and I am curious if some of the above was present on this dive. I have heard the argument that 140' is just 10' more then the recreational limit, and if I use the navy tables then I can still do the dive without a deco obligation as long as I keep my bottom time short. I am...

Diver Dies in Lake Huron on the Dunderberg

I have seen many people on a wreck at 140' with a single aluminum 80. I highly doubt you consider them to be tech divers. Some of us are assuming that this was a tech dive gone wrong, I am only questioning if it was a stupid dive gone wrong.

Diver Dies in Lake Huron on the Dunderberg

My comment was to the point that you can bring an unconscious diver to the surface in control by skipping your stops. That way you can ensure the other divers on the boat are aware of the problem, you can prevent the victim from laying face down in the water, and even possibly prevent the victim...

Diver Dies in Lake Huron on the Dunderberg

I don't think anyone is saying what the buddy did was wrong - but perhaps not what many consider to be the ideal action (if there is such a thing in this type of situation) . If you send someone to the surface and the folks on the boat aren't expecting the victim they might not notice him hit...

Diver Dies in Lake Huron on the Dunderberg

I am hoping to dive this wreck this year so this has definitely cast a shadow on my plans although I still plan to go ahead with the dive, it once again re-enforces (in my mind at least) the need to be constantly training and practicing skills for these types of dives. I hate to be the one to...

Anyone interested in diving in Eastern Lake Erie - August 21st-22nd

As Jim mentioned - only you can determine if you are going to be comfortable with these dives. Your profile has 50-99 dives listed and an advanced diver so in my mind you have the paper qualifications. Now when you say you've done most of your dives in Gilboa - how many have you done on the deep...

Anyone interested in diving in Eastern Lake Erie - August 21st-22nd

Yes, I agree that it is a ways off but I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to participate (and to put my mind at ease that the boat was full). I've heard many times, "I wish I'd known earlier, but I've just made plans". The 4 wrecks on Saturday are relatively close together and they...

Anyone interested in diving in Eastern Lake Erie - August 21st-22nd

Hey folks, I've got a bit of a situation on my hands that I am hoping a few of you will be able to help me out on. Back in the winter I booked "The Southwind" out of Westfield New York for the dive shop that I teach for and also help out at. The problem is that we thought we would have no...

Starting to plan a trip to Truk/Chuuk - help please

Once again everyone - awesome responses and I greatly appreciate all the continued help ... my only concern is that this trip is going to get me hooked and I'm going to have start planning on multiple trips. I understand that the odyssey books up fast and that I should be (and I am) planning...

Starting to plan a trip to Truk/Chuuk - help please

I met up with the shop owner last night and went over all the information and opinions that I had gathered from SB ... he wanted me to pass along his thanks as well (he's not the most computer savvy). Looks like it is going to be the Odyssey with a day or 2 on either end of the week at either...

Starting to plan a trip to Truk/Chuuk - help please

We are looking at late in 2011 and as of right now it looks like there will be 4 or 5 of us. As for the shop owner - although he loves diving, he enjoys the vacation part of the trips as well. Myself - the more dives the better. We have slightly different perspectives on diving and with Chuuk...

Starting to plan a trip to Truk/Chuuk - help please

Thanks everyone for the quick responses - if there is anyone else with suggestions please feel free to chime in or PM me. I have come up with a few more detailed questions based on your answers and I hope that you will keep helping me out on the details. 1) For the land based opperations -...

Starting to plan a trip to Truk/Chuuk - help please

The LDS that I spend too much time with (and too much money) is looking at putting together a trip to Truk/Chuuk. The store owner is not exactly computer savy so I have been recruited to ask the SB community for some help and guidance. Here are the basic questions that I am looking for an...

    Jamaica?

I just got back from a week in Ocho Rios. This was my first time in Jamaica but found it decent. Vis was anywhere from 50' (when the ocean was kicking up) to 150' on the better days. Not much in the way of big stuff and compared to Roatan or Curacao (my last two trips), there wasn't a massive...

    tobermory

Besides the shore dives that were mentioned - some of the charter dives that are pretty good for OW level divers would include (IMHO): Sweepstakes, Wetmore and Carolina Rose. As for a night dive - beisdes the shore dive, I know I have dove with Steve on the Sweepstakes at night, however they...

+1 for Steve at Aquasports. I believe he is also going to have a new boat for this coming season. I think Teak Bay is getting retired.
