"Channel Islands" is actually a bit of a misnomer. They're in the middle of nowhere, the only channel is the eleven mile wide one between them and the mainland. The islands themselves have a couple of bays though, and those contain some of the nicer dives.

I tried force fins (separate category), and despite having a strong following in the diving community, I do believe that force fins suck. Split fins all the way!

I personally prefer the option of having a snorkel when diving abroad, but I never use it in California. Snorkels make it so much easier to get stuck in the kelp.

Where in Bora Bora? Is it good in front of any of the resorts? I've snorkeled on Grand Cayman and that was pretty interesting.
