Tulum airport - anyone used it?

And yes transfers are insanely expensive. Thankfully I had someone picking me up.

Tulum airport - anyone used it?

Yes in March right as they were opening. Avoid at all costs. Long story short my bag didn’t make a connection (domestic within Mexico) and took three full days to get it even though it made it to Tulum later the day I arrived. That airport was absolutely not ready for prime time and I’ll...

MODS: The Tale of a DUI Knockoff

also a plug for Santi who then made me both a suit and undergarment from my at-home measurements that fit like I should be walking the Met gala in them 🤵‍♂️

MODS: The Tale of a DUI Knockoff

Are you sure it’s a knock off and not genuine DUI? Sounds about the same fit as the garbage “MTM” that I wasted 4 grand on from them

Question How did you set up your Deep6 storage case?

No foam is the only way I get both in.

Travelling with Tek gear - i wasn't ready for the weight!

Y'all obv haven't had to negotiate Lufthansa's wheel of fortune where every 4 slices is "Go on strike". One of their 24 hr strikes left me stranded in Egypt and I had to find my own way home. And then threaten legal action after several months to get my money refunded.

Travelling with Tek gear - i wasn't ready for the weight!

Mexico "TSA" often doesn't like regs and no one likes reels/spools. I also had issues in Zurich IIRC? So I check everything heavy now. Black Diamond Stonehauler duffels are burly AF (made for climbing gear which is also hard and heavy like dive gear) and slightly less flashy then Patagonia's...

Preparing for fundamentals / intro to tech

So traumatic, in fact, that decade(s) later it's brought up at every possibility. Yet somehow not traumatic enough to be able to remember the name of the hazing instructor(s). Sample sizes 😂 n=1: "fundies is a fraternity-style hazing audition"; n significantly >1: "just show up ready to...

Info Halcyon Focus 2.0 vs. Light Monkey 20-32 VF

I have an UWLD that I love for ocean diving, it's a fantastic light. But TBH I don't really like it in caves of wrecks. The pattern is too broad for clear signaling in small spaces and does too good a job of spilling light everywhere. I didn't even bother bringing it with me on a trip to MX...

Halcyon Evolve 60 wing + double 12L tanks - overkill?

I dove D12s (Worthingtons) with an Evolve 60 for non-tech dives and it works, just a little on the annoyingly big side and if you only have a little gas in it the bubble gurgles around but it works fine otherwise.

backpack for carrying 3 AL80 tanks

From SCUBA diver to HABA climber! Back on topic re: carts, if there's a trail wide enough, I've seen photos recently of I think the Protec guys using big dual-wheeled plastic wheelbarrow/tote carts for many tanks, and jokingly people as well.

backpack for carrying 3 AL80 tanks

Not a matter of political correctness, just pointing out the difference between the two for anyone interested in being more accurate in their use of language. A "local mountain guide or porter" is certainly not someone carrying AL80s through the jungle. (And TIL about the G7, but again I don't...
