Will there be diving in the Philippines this summer?

If you have a residential visa, not clear yet on what types of visas this covers, you will be allowed to return after 1 Aug subject to having pre-booked test and quarantine facility. Also this will be subject to priority being given to Filipinos returning so you can get bumped. (I know of a guy...

    Diving again in Moalboal

I seriously doubt if there will be easy tourist entry or internal travel in the Philippines by then. Manila and Cebu City are on tight lock down until end of July and I expect that this will continue well into Aug with gradual relaxation after that. Still reports of people stranded at the...

West Hawk is the one dive site where I have the most dives. It is handy and close to where I lived, lots of diving there including a lot of train9ng dives. It is where I have done all my ice diving as well. Sad to hear about another facility there.

Diving on a limited basis has restarted in Moalboal Cebu province. I had my first dive on Saturday and went again on Sunday. Right now it is only shore dives so with two sites available, left or right, I will spread out my diving to keep it fresh. I am diving with Cebu Dive Centre and the left...

    My advice to new divers

Fir new divers I'd advise spluitting your gear into 4 roughly equal dollar valus groups. First is the personal stuff, the stuff that has to fit and is in contact with your body and small stuff that is often not available in rental gear. You should get this about as soon as you certify OW. Even...

A Really Smelly Neoprene Suit ~ help!

That is my go to. Mix about a furl box in a bucket and soak the suit for a couple hours at least. Even sprinkle some where the smell is stronger before putting in the soak. Prince and repeat as necessary.

My dive and work buddy and I were staying at a marina on Rainy Lake near Fort Frances Ont ( near International Falls Mn) We would usually have a dive after work and then run the compressors while having supper. Twice we were asked to get stuff for fishers who had dropped it right at the dock...

The unfortunate tale of a place where everybody knows your name

I like the Newfie ( i.e. someone from Newfoundland) way. Every one is "Buddy" unless there are two of them then they are Buddy and de other fella. I am really bad with names, especially non Anglo Saxon names that I am not familiar with. Add in serious difficulty recognizing faces and I have a...

    Dive gear storage

No pictures to add just a comment on using shop vacs. When my dry suit was overripe I gave it a good soaking and cleaning and to dry it I put the shop vac hose into each boot and let it blow into it for 24 hours, Dried it like a charm. If I was to make a drying rack like those pictured I...

Trip Report Back in the high life again

There is a difference between feeling the cold and being cold. Feeling the cold is that it is cold on your skin, being cold is a drop in core body temperature. I like feeling the cold when diving, I am Canadian and used to feeling the cold but living in the tropics these last 4 years have not...
