Surfing wet suit vs scuba suit

I am not a woman but have been married to a diving professional (instructor) for 40 years. We men have used a back zip suits (surfing suits) for many years, the same reason as we can't seem to get out of our suits if the zipper is in the front, so back zip is the way to go. I don't think there...

Question Do tank straps have to go through the back plate?

STA Single Tank Adapters. They allow you to attach you cam bands to the STA and the STA is BOLTED to your Backplate. The most secure system that doesn't required the threading of your cam bands through the wing or BP.

    what to learn next?

I would suggest that you take the GUE Fundamentals course. As an individual you will be given an opportunity to learn stuff and be mentored how to do it. Leave the politics behind, it is the one course that i took in the 40 + years of diving that really changed me for the better as a diver.

Want your own Hyperbaric Chamber? Its cheap!

Sounds like you have some experience with chambers. I'd like to note that although "...60 fsw may be a procedure for treating type 1 bends simply on pure oxygen...", some people cannot handle pure oxygen at 60 fsw. We deal with this issue by giving the patient "Air Breaks". You standard Table 6...

    PFO Testing in Canada

So she's a pioneer - very cool! How is she doing now? Does she still dive? Yes she does. We are semi -retired from teaching but still recreationally. We moved from Minnesota to Texas so our wetsuit diving season is 10 months of the year as opposed to 0 months of the year up North. She is in a...

    PFO Testing in Canada

'That's unfortunate about your wife. Did her TTE also use bubble contrast? TTE with bubble contrast is sufficient to detect a clinically significant PFO." Her initial "undeserved hits" happened in the 90's. She and I were Scuba Instructors and all the medical care was done at the Mayo Clinic in...

    PFO Testing in Canada

For better accuracy the minimum test would be the TEE (Transesophageal echocardiography to take ultrasound pictures taken from the esophagus). This is considered an invasive procedure so it would cost more. My wife had DCS experiences in in shallow dives and was tested twice using...

Drysuit wear and tear in MX caves

I agree that a Trilaminate suit would work great because they weigh less, they dry faster, thus they are easier to repair holes with and they cost less. I have had 40+ years of diving in a drysuit. Living in Minnesota and working for a dive store got me into the Old Poseidon Unsuit back in 79...

Question So I'm 65 and on medicare which will not cover a physical. What do older divers do for the required physical? How extensive should it be?

From the point of view of a Hyperbaric facility employee, because of your smoking history, a good Diving doctor would request at least a chest X-ray to find "Blebs" that heavy smoking can cause. I have a younger brother who smoked for 40 years who at dinner party in 2016 had a "Spontaneous...

    Halcynon BPW

Halcyon does not sell a harness with buckles on the shoulder. I would suggest looking at Dive Rite for that system. Halcyon has the "Cinch: harness which allows you to loosen your shoulder straps by pulling the harness straps away from your body and to tighten them around your wais by pulling...

DCS recovery and next steps advice

DCS has caused trauma in your system, evidenced by your symptoms. HBOT just gets rid of the cause and given enough treatments, helps with the healing. That is one of the reasons why they tell you to stay out of the water for a while. Your body has to heal. I have had 3 DCS hits, and my wife has...

    hyperbaric chamber and oxygen

A comment given by a medical professional in Hyperbaric Medicine to me when asked the OP's question. "Exercise also increases the risk of CNS O2 toxicity, likely related to increased cerebral blood flow and metabolic rate". Patients in the chamber are either sitting down on a comfortable chair...

    Bret Gilliam

When Drager/Uwatec unveiled their Dolphin Rebreather in 1997 at the DEMA show, Bret was the Rep that I sat down with to talk about the system. That same event I too their rebreather class from Rob Palmer (RIP). I had seen Bret from afar for years before that. He was also behind the "Cruise Ship...

Bloody froth in the mouth ... symptom of ?

So I am looking at a document that has "Coughing up bloody sputum" as a "Sign & Symptom of DCS". I was always taught, and I would also teach that it was "Bloody froth in the mouth " was AGE.
