The "class" you've described does not sound at all safe to me.
While it's true most Discover SCUBA experiences are held in extremely easy conditions, you do need time to get familiar with lots of things you've probably never done before. You aren't getting that needed time. While sone may...
Not according to my preferences. My class would violate PADI standards.
I've seen instructors like that in all agencies as well, but the majority of the ones I've seen do not fit that mold.
Drown proofing will help. Done correctly, you can stay afloat for hours. Done incorrectly, you'll get tired quickly and won't make it. Take it slow and easy.
You can probably also learn to float on your back (sorta). Let your feet hang straight down. You will be close to vertical in...
I first saw this when I logged on this morning and it's still here this afternoon. When I click on new posts, the list of threads on the resulting screen are in rows so wide there's only two (2) threads on my screen. Replies and views run vertically on the screen. It's very strange.
NEVER pinch your nose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tell my students, "You only need 3 things at the pool at this point. 1. Mask 2. Snorkel 3. Weight belt with weight." At this point, I do overweight my students.
At no point will we leave the shallow end of the pool and I stay between my students...
In the past I've posted thumbnails using the attachments button. It worked well. Now, I
can't find the attachments button when replying to a thread. I see it here when I'm
starting a new thread, but not when I use quick reply. When I try to go advanced with
my reply, all the buttons...
How hany dives have you made in this lake? Does the bottom silt easily? How far from the bottom do you have to be to avoid silting usng a flutter kick? How well do you use a frog kick? There's a site near here that I've dived hundreds of times. I do not think I know it well, although I'm...
Not the best idea in the world. While you will probably be OK, why take a chance? There is no compelling reason for you to be diving solo in low visibility with almost no diving experience. The bottom may be unobstructed as you suspect or it may have lots of junk of which you are unaware...
Seems like you are making a mountain out of a molehill. It's his shop and it's his class. If you want to work with him, and apparently you do, you follow his rules. Since he's happy to loan you gear and not require you to buy it, I don't see the issue. Comply and get your instructor ticket...
Weight yourself to be neutral at 30 ft. If you experience shallow water blackout, being positively buoyant shallower than 30 ft will bring you to the surface.
Weighting yourself to be negative at the surface can cause you to drown.
