PADI charges $195 for the e-learning package. The additional $50 is for a certified instructor to come in special for me since there isn't a class anywhere in my area before I head out. Not doing the Nitrox class now vs later is a savings since I won't have another opportunity to dive for at...
Or I do yoga three times a week and have very good flexibility. The distance really isn't that great. A Hollis plate is only 8" wide at the top. The maximum distance the ends of my shoulder blades have to travel along the plane of my body is therefore just over 4 inches. I will try to get photos.
I understand your point. I just put the plate & harness back on in my normal configuration. The plate does extend almost to the bottom of my neck, at least without a tank yanking it around. The discomfort is coming from the fact that when I move my arms, my shoulder blades pop out from behind...
Simple question, difficult to answer.
I have the opportunity to do a live aboard mid-October to either the upper Channel Islands in California or Kona, Hawaii. The latter would cost roughly $1,000 more in total expenses than the former. The diving on California trip would be from 10/13 to 10/16...
Definitely diving singles. I am strictly recreational. Thanks for your positive review of DSS. I wish any of the LDS in my area carried their stuff. It looks like Oxycheq makes a small steel as well. Dive Rite, which I love, makes a small aluminum but not a steel. I would kill and eat a manatee...
I am a small, 5'3", diver. I have an aluminum Hollis back plate which I like. I am looking to add a steel plate for cold weather diving. My only complaint with the Hollis aluminum plate is the size. As a diver of small stature the aluminum plate is really about 3 inches too long for me. The top...
Hoping this will reach Hollis since it is owned by Oceanic...
I am a small, 5'3", diver. I have an aluminum Hollis back plate which I like. Actually, I probably have one the first as I bought it shortly after they appeared. I am looking to add a steel plate for cold weather diving. My only...
Thanks but no thanks. I'd rather spend my money on a regulator that has a longer history of reliable performance. I also think Sherwood has not handled the situation very well. I would prefer to deal with a company that is more concerned about their reputation for quality than the marginal cost...
Thanks for taking the time to get an answer out of Sherwood and letting everyone know the score. This just confirms my decision not to buy from Sherwood.
A) Sharks are attracted to electromagnetic sources
B) An open circuit in the water is a really bad idea
C) You don't need it. You need to learn how to swim with sharks without acting like bait.

I have the DAN sausage and have carried it on dives but never used it. There are three things you should consider:
The DAN model is huge and doesn't pack small. Your Dive Rite tube is smaller.
SubaToys sells the DAN model for $50. I bought mine from SubaToys and can confirm it is the real...
Welcome to the board. There are a fair number of divers in the Salt Lake metro area. A few of the dive shops are pretty good about sponsoring local dive-a-long trips and getting the word out. There is one this weekend in Flaming Gorge. I think Dive Addicts in Draper is sponsoring one next...
The only situations in which I would feel threatened by a grouper are:
1) I did something to threaten the grouper
2) Previous divers had taught the grouper to associate people with food
3) I forgot to unhook the raw meat from my rig before entering the water
