As an alternative to moving between Mexico and Belize have you thought of 1 week in the Florida Keys than a week in Belize. That’s what I’m doing for the SB Invasion next month.
Glasgow - Heathrow - Miami - week’s diving - Belize - week’s diving - Miami - Heathrow - Glasgow.
Just because you instructor has been around for a long time doesn’t mean their teaching modern thinking, i.e. skills done with horizontal trim, not on knees.
Do you use Silica gel sachets, or at least toilet paper to absorb moisture from the trapped air.
Is the air dry where you close the housing. And don’t leave it in direct sunlight.
Hi, dive wise the U.K. has a variety of dive sites, the waters are now warming up on the Scottish west coast, last Sunday it was up to 11’C.
Have you joined your local BSAC club, where you’ll get plenty of guidance on diving our fantastic waters.
Having racked up nearly 200 dives in Belize and a fare few in Mexico, my preference is Belize (and back again with the SB Invation).
Have a look at ReefCI as something different, but the diving out of San Pedro isn't too bad. The reef is quite a way off the mainland so its practical to stay on...
Keep in mind an AI is expected to teach add-hoc lessons. You’ve already proved you can teach the BSAC syllabus up to DL. Concentrate on Dive Planning, know how to read charts (whether RIB or Hard-boat), study different kit configurations. Brush up on navigation and rules of the road for boating...
Some valves even when open need a help by pressing the button.
From your dive count, you’re still learning when to start dumping. I think it took over 100 dives to be comfortable ascending by not leaving it too long. Also, when did you last do a weight check, being overweighted means you’re air...
I have often hired a guide. I don’t like groups and I don’t solo dive. One time my regular buddy (an Assistant Advanced Instructor) was limited my time underwater so I paid for a guide. During the pre-dive brief I check they are capable of doing the dive I want, if not I modify the plan.
A reminder to BSAC members throughout the world, voting for 1 Ordinary Council member (NED) and the Chair positions opened today and runs until 11 June.
You should have received your email from Civica. If you do not receive an email from Civica, please contact us at membership@bsac.com or by...
Have a look at Westfield Marine Insurance to see whether they meet your expetations. I've used them for the last 15 years (2 or 3 trips a year) or so, but never had to make a claim.
@gwklein pretty will covered it.
In most places, if you’re not doing a course you’re responsible for planning your dive not the operator.
The only way to ensure you get good equipment is to own and bring your own. Which I do, only tanks and lead are operator provided.
How a dive shop maintains their equipment has nothing to do with the agency they advertise. The agencies are only interested the “training” standards the shop follows, how a shop manages “fun” diving usually has nothing to do with the agency.
