So, I'm just checking to see if anyone with similar size have bought any of the cheap amazon options and have been happy with them... I'm still on my diet and working to lose more weight so don't want to invest too much at this point on a wetsuit. Diving in Texas and hopefully tropic areas, so...
I'm wondering if one of the Hog dealers on here could give me a great deal if I were buying the complete setup (backplate/wing/reg package/hoses)... perhaps Piranha or another...
If I went that route... is the 23# HOG enough lift...
With that in mind, am I better off going aluminum or is it just a preference for travel/reduced weight in that sense. I like the looks of the freedom... at least with the options I'm exploring, I think all of those wings would work on the freedom. Perhaps I'll eventually upgrade to the freedom...
I agree... I wish there were some dive logs that were as good... I kept having bug issues with Subsurface... I think the best I found so far is MacDive... (I normally use a PC, but have access to MacOS and use an iPhone).
The three setups I'm considering for the bp/w are:
DGX Custom - DGX Singles Harness / Backplate / Wing Package | Dive Gear Express®
Hog BP/W Full Set - Single
Deep 6 Single Tank Backplate and Wing Package
Any recommendations of one over the other?
In terms of weight... my certification dives were in a 3mm w/ Aqualungs Pro HD BCD... I was using 8 pounds in the quick release and 4 pounds on the tank/trim... I might of been able to get away with a bit less... This was in fw. In the pool without the wetsuit I was ok with 6#. I'm leaning...
Those are still outside their chart... so that gives me some hope that their 2XL would fit me as well.
In terms of BC... I'm leaning towards this setup:
DGX Custom - DGX Singles Harness / Backplate / Wing Package | Dive Gear Express®
Then I'm trying to determine the best value/quality weight...
Being 270# and 46" Waist, 49" chest, I don't think I could squeeze into their 2XL. Though the 46" waist measurement suprised me as most of the pants/shorts I'm wearing are size 40.
Just got certified and exploring my gear purchase options... I really like the computer... but like the idea of AI as well... to buy this or splurge for the Perdix AI + Transmitter... I like the idea of at least keeping track of air usage of dives... can you log start/end pressure on the...
So if I buy new...
Deep6 vs Hog vs DGX vs DiveRite vs... I'd like to stay in that general price range and would like a company that offers a course or is at least open to self-service.
BP/W Setup/brand... Hog vs DGX vs DiveRite... not sure how much difference there really is between all of them...
It's fairly old. I think he bought the BCD about 6 years ago... the rest not sure about. I imagine it's been serviced a few times, but likely nothing in the past 3-4 years which is likely about how long ago it's been since used. If I bought it, I'd def take the regulators in to get serviced.
$300... I'm sure it'll include other misc items such as weights, etc...
The other thing I'm considering is what computer to buy. I'm leaning towards Shearwater and trying to determine if I want AI now or later (Peregine vs Perdix AI)... I may consider buying a cheaper non AI computer ~$200-250...
So, just got certified and looking at purchasing my first set of gear. I have a buddy who has the following setup that'll sell me for a good price.
Mares V16 SCS Titan
Mares protonXL
Oceanic Slimline 2
Aeris Oceans 5 BCD
He'll also throw in 2 steel tanks that'll need inspected.
Most my diving...
I'll try installing the windows app. I no longer have the dive computer on me and deleted the computer (but not the logs) from the mobile app. For whatever reason they don't show up on divercloud... so I'm hoping this will work.
