    Wonky otters!

LC runway is too short for the Saabs. Flying into LC has never been without possible issues. But, LCBR added to the issues when they began to require weekend day to weekend day reservations. Previously, there was always a scattering of weekday to weekday reservations, which took some of the...

Yes. There are always some who could f*** up an anvil.

    Throw away or ?

Are you sure they are Microns and not Micras? Big difference. Microns are not that old, and most parts are available.

Backup regulator set Sherwood? vs Aqualung

NO contest. That vintage Sherwood has the dry bleed filter in the piston. If clogged is almost impossible to clean, and piston must be replaced.. Parts for old Sherwoods can be iffy. But, if it works you can use it until it doesn't. The Titan first stage is an excellent breathing first and parts...

Sherwood MAXIMUS SRB5600 - worth keeping / paying to have serviced?

Sherwood's dry bleed is important, but I have seen divers at recreational depths who had no idea that the dry bleed was not functioning. As long as the filter ( scintered filter in piston of older Sherwoods, or as a separate unit at the side in the first stage on later models) is not plugged...

Sherwood MAXIMUS SRB5600 - worth keeping / paying to have serviced?

You do not state your location, but I would find another dive shop, preferably one with experience with Sherwood regs. They are taking the opportunity to upsell, when there is likely nothing wrong other than possibly a second stage seat which can either be replaced or flipped in minutes. It...

Help ID-ing budget Mares first stage. Early 2000s

It is an older Mares piston first stage. It was their entry level reg, but since it was not much less expensive than the MR-12 diaphragm first stage we almost never sold one. Mares has never been noted for easy parts availability, but since it is such a simple first stage, parts may be available.

Question Aqualung Titan LX Octopus Air Leak Problem - LF Spare Part

The Titan LX second is virtually identical to the early Legend second. I am continually amazed at what "techs" will tell customers. There is always play between the lever and the air barrel and there is no seal here. My initial search would look at the o-ring on the shuttle and the seat.

    New Apeks XTX50 whistling sound

Dry regs can make all sorts of ugly sounds. Usually, it is not a problem unless there is a noise when underwater

    AL 40 recommendation?

The older Catalina 80's I had were indeed heavier and balanced differently than the Luxfers. But some time during the last 15 years or so, Catalina apparently changed their design and the newer Catalinas (4) that I have are virtually identical to the Luxfers (10).

Call Leisurepro in NY for Apeks pricing. They are an Aqualung/Apeks dealer. CALL and talk to a salesperson. Do not pay attention to the prices in their website as they are constrained by a MAP agreement.

Used Regulator Hoses with Unknown History?

Question. Where was her buddy Can't see the video. Where was her buddy when you escorted her to the surface? Assuming that you were at LCBR, they have a very strict buddy policy, and almost always have a spare reg on board in case of a problem. Typical "aquarium stone" high pressure leaks do...

Got a good deal, and tried my hand at stripping...

Very nice job. You now have a brushed finished which is the preferred finish for tanks which are heavily used in salt water. Do not clear coat them. I stripped 2 Catalina 80's which had been factory clear coated. The clear coat had cracked from use allowing salt to intrude under the clear coat.

    reg leaking - normal?

Actually, the Titan LX and Legend use the same second stage kit as most of the Apeks seconds. I maintain 4 Titan LX's (3 old style and 1 new) and 2 Apeks XTX's. Can't Talk... Diving is correct. The shuttle spring adjustment requires only a hex wrench (if an adjustment knob is not installed)...

    Aqualung regs...

I have several older (barrel first stage) Titan LX's which have removable crowns, and several Apex (of various persuasion) with non-removable crown. In my opinion, in most cases, removable vs non-removable is a non issue, since it takes a very ham-handed "tech" to damage a crown.
