    Diving "RELATED" injury Saturday...

Ummm.... Not by title. They are sorted in order by author though and most series are in order. Back in college, I attempted a card catalog but gave up on that idea prety quick (I had a box of index cards I brought in to school and I'd take requests for loans based on that and bring them...

    about my ears

Sounds like you may have traumatized your ears some on Friday. Not enought to bother you untill you dove again on Sunday but enough to cause some swelling or fluid/mucus in the eustacian(sp?) tubes. This made Sundays equalizing harder and the additional irritation lead to what is going on...

    Diving "RELATED" injury Saturday...

LOL, I'll post a pic of my bookshelves later tonight (when I get home from work). I got LOADS of bookshelves. Just don't have any that fit the big NOAA book in my bedroom... Have to go out to the livingroom for that. EDIT: well, actualy, I do have one book shelf it would fit into in the...

    Diving "RELATED" injury Saturday...

OK, here's my story... I was reading my new NOAA manual Saturday evening (I just got it at "Beneath the Sea") and carefully placed it on the floor next to my bed when I was finished... When I got up later, I tripped over it and managed to make my left pinky toe about twice the size it...

Carbon Monoxide / CO detectors / analyzers

I've got an Aeromedix detector and it seems to be prety good. It normaly sits on my desk or dresser when not taken on dive trips. I was out but my roomate said it went off one weekend because someone was running a car in the parking garage for a few hours to recharge the battery, etc. The...

What you should not do when diving

Hi Mania, "fatal" Hmm... Perhaps "fateful" (meaning #1)? (Definitions below found poking around google) Fateful: 1: having momentous consequences; of decisive importance 2: of ominous significance 3: controlled or decreed by fate; predetermined I have a good friend and dive...

    Oxygen tester????

Compare yours (and the shops if possible) against a third tester to see which ones come closest to agreement. -- Without 100% O2 available, the 2nd best bet to calibrate is a known 'air' filled tank. Hook up the tester EXACTLY as it is used on a nitrox tank and run air through it. Set...

Do you get your equipment serviced....

Depends on the BC and the manufacturers reccomendations... The spring that holds the air dump valve closed could get rusted or weaken for some reason so it may need replacement once every several years is one example I can think of. With a well maintained BC, this "shouldn't" be an issue...

    o2 clean

I found carbon in one of my regs this year when I did the anual service & O2 cleaning... 2 issues: 1: It was the 'newest' reg that I have and I'm guessing that the store I got it at didn't really clean it properly when I bought it even though I was charged for that (based on where and how...

Do you clean your O2 reg.

My buddy and I O2 clean EVERY reg except the dedicated Argon bottle regs. That just gets a regular service. I have 6 regs, he has at least 12. There are about 16 tanks/valves of various sizes to do as well... We spend a couple winter weekends each year servicing and cleaning the whole...

    DIR regulators...?

Using the Apeks ATX100/200 1st stage "upside down" or sideways won't affect performance at all. Something to think about is the environmental seal though. If it's "upside down", that soft seal will be pointing "up" and could be damaged if you hit an overhead object with it. I'm prety sure...

    Dive computers for technical diving

I have the DiveRite He and it is very simple to program and use. Right out of the box, I had no trouble seting up everything. I did read the manual before diving it though, just to be sure I hadn't missed anything. I know 2 people who have VR3s and both of them had problems with them when...

    Deco Bottle Position

I like the Apeks regs too. I use 2 DS4s (with tx40 2nds) for my deco bottles and 2 ATX100s for the doubles (O2 clean everything). ATX100s were really hard to get for a while (US Navy was buying them up) but the ATX200 is supposed to be as good or better (but I've never tried one so I...

    The great travel BC topic

Weight limits! Yikes! I just got back last weekend from a tech diving trip (livaboard in Exuma keys). I was able to get everything into 3 pieces of luggage: 1 carryon rollcase at 40 Lbs - the max carryon for Continental flights. 1 check duffle bag (deepoutdoors Submariner) at 50 Lbs...

Why do you need to decompress from Heliox?

Well, since they say we're running out of easily obtainable Helium, we may see Neon become more economicly viable in 10-20 years. As Helium becomes more 'scarce' the prices will go up. Similar to 'alternative fuels' for automobiles. When gasoline prices get high enough, the previously more...

    Getting down

How? Pressing the manual inflation valve and breathing in? If so, that may not be such a good idea. A BC bladder is a great place to grow nasty stuff (damp & generaly prety dark) that could easily end up in your lungs. I suppose if you seterilize the inside of the BC bladder between...

Plan on diving dry. Don't do it on an impulse.

My LDS includes a free drysuit class with any drysuit purchase (new or used). I think they offer the class by itself prety cheap anyway as a lost-leader towards drysuit rentals as well... I think they do require a card to rent but I might be wrong - they might rent to someone who showed...
