DIR- Generic CCR1 class report in Croatia (Krnica) with Derk Remmers

What kind of tanks are you using? It took me a lot of effort to find the “right” tanks. The tanks I’m using are 7 liter steel tanks with a weight of 7,6 kg. (Vitkovice) It took me a lot of time/dives to adjust my harnas and find the right height of my rebreather relative to my backplate. Now...

DIR- Generic CCR1 class report in Croatia (Krnica) with Derk Remmers

You could use the original jj backplate. It's possible to change the height of the JJ relative to backplate. (That's not possible with a halcyon backplate with 2 holes for mounting tanks. The JJ backplate has 3 pairs of holes for mounting the JJ). I don't know what kind of first stages you are...

🙄 Mexico is geweldig!

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

You don’t need a third bottle for redundancy which is not part of your gasplanning if you’re already using 2 tanks for a rec dive. Just use 2 tanks and a planning which makes sense. When I do use doubles in openwater and a bottomstage (80) I start with the stage. A positive buoyant tank is not...

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

For redundancy you don’t need 3 tanks. Why don’t you start and breath down with the stage to a certain pressure and then start using your single tank/backgas ? Or just use doubles instead of 3 tanks. If I would use doubles/sidemount for a cave dive I don’t need a third tank for redundancy.

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

Because of that the pony should be large enough . Even with stress you should be able to do safety/deco stop(s). A diver should calculate if the pony contains enough gas. Stops are only slowing down the ascent speed. :stirpot:

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

The longhose is not always under my loop. When I did CCR1 we started the dive with longhose under the loop. When my buddy had a CCR failure an was using his OC backup regulator, I did learn to put my longhose above my loop. (When I dive with an oc diver, my longhose is also above my loop. If...

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

    No, it's not that simple ;-) https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/hog-wrapping-a-bail-out-hose-under-a-loop-on-a-rebreather.613195/page-5#post-9504206

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

In 150 dives (12 cave dives) I never had an issue with removing the head. I think it depends on which cave you're diving (and restrictions). I'm not telling that there are no issues, but it's not true that if you dive a JJ in a cave that it would take you 30 minutes to remove/clean the crap...

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

I check all my divegear at the surface. But that doesn’t mean that it will work from the start till the end of the dive. I do understand that there are people who are using cells for a long time. But there are also manufacturers who tell users not use cells longer than 12 month and don’t use...

Where should I start to approach the rebreather world

I did buy a JJ and did gue ccr1 training. This were my motivations : - possible to join gue project - easy to find a good instructor - easy to dive as a mixed team. (longhose, bungeed backup, procedures) - allowed to do dives in tech 1 range after 25 dives with max depth of 30 meter

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

The minimum gas calculation time is 9 minutes. In the past Gue was using a different calculation. Now they are using the cat calculation. https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/cat-calculation-for-gue-fundies.542191/page-5 The time in minimum gas calculation is the same as the time the...

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

How can a beginner know that his pony is large enough to get safe to the surface ? Would a spare air or 2 liter be enough or is a larger pony required? How does a beginner get this knowledge when it is not in his training?

Is a Pony Bottle too complicated for a beginner?

It’s all about risk. How much redundancy do you need? How important is it to get good training and have a good buddy? Should you do the dive or not? When is adding more equipment necessary and when is it nonsense? With a oc tech dive I would plan a dive and if my buddy has a failure we can...

    DIR- GUE Reflections on Fundamentals

I did start with air/nitrox as dlilluent. The first 25 dives after the training the jj was a lot of taskload for me. I was thinking that fundamentals was enough lo learn ccr diving. But honestly after this 25 dives it wasn’t much easier! Doing deco stops in poor visibility with a lot of...
