But I have always preferred 7.25" diameter tanks to 8" fatties. It makes an even bigger difference in sidemount configuration.

I got the impression the OP was talking about used tanks. And when people say HP120, I have to assume they are talking about true HP 3500psi 7/8 skinny neck tanks like PST. The 3442psi/232bar tanks are not the same, but are newer and more plentiful.
And I've had both PST and spun Asahi tanks...
I have to disagree. The decimal place lends a degree of accuracy that just isn't really there. I've complained about the 2 decimal places used by Shearwater in pO2 measurements for years. It makes many people think their cells are off or their electronics are flaky because the last digit dances...
A true HP120 is about the size of an aluminum 80. Same diameter and only an inch or 2 taller. I used to dive them as doubles. You will have no problem diving them as singles. The guy that needs to be 6'4" and 300 pounds must be diving LP120s. They are huge. Larger diameter, much taller, and...
There is nothing wrong with teflon tape and oxygen. There is a problem if the teflon tape has any grease or other lubricant on it. Clean hands and wipe off the tape and you won't have any problem.
I have not found that to be true at all. I am certified to do my own inspections and I do not buy special stickers. I've used generic stickers for years on my own tanks without question.
I have used both Interspiro (AGA) and OTS Guardian masks. Neither one is designed for CCR use, so there is some custom work to be done. But they both have worked fine. The easiest way to get FFM on a rebreather is to use the Nova/Panorama mask. But there is a caution. There are 2 versions of...
No, but I have the computer that connects to one that I have not used in years and would love to sell. Anyone make an offer?

I have not found that kind of "line of sight" limitation. I've been deep in a wreck with buddies outside at the opposite end and heard fine. I haven't had any trials of it in caves since my FFM buddies aren't trained, but we've used them on cavern dives without issue.
Ball valve or gas...
This thread has raised issues of O2 equipment both on the boat and in the water. Those needs are different. I'm a big fan of IWR, especially in cases where help could be significantly delayed. Even a helicopter could take a few hours when diving at a remote site. So the FFM and long tether etc...
Most of what has been posted in this thread is true, on both sides of the issue. But I have used FFMs for years on both open circuit and rebreathers, for recreational and technical diving. I feel there is one indisputable issue and that is safety. Safety provided by the FFM in case of...
How much difference is there between people that don't have the necessary training and those that have the training and choose to ignore it? This is a serious question. We seem to put certain people on pedestals even though their demise was self inflicted by ignoring the principles they were...
If your objective is to talk to students while both you and they are underwater, the simple solution is a FFM with comms for you and listening pieces for them. The earpieces clip on a mask and receive just like the comms on the FFM, but do not have any transmit capability.
There are also...
Unbiased and tactful as always.
As Claudia and Tom pointed out, SCR is a viable alternative for certain types of diving. It is NOT a substitute for CCR when closed circuit is called for. I happen to agree that the Explorer is an expensive piece of junk. But as I have stated elsewhere, the...
I'm the one calling BS on you, Peter. The JJs you are talking about on CCRX and FB are listed in GBP, not Euro. They're about $6k each.
And I have a barely used (maybe 15 dives) GEM that I've been trying to sell. Far superior to the Dolphin or Azimuth. I also think it is a much better SCR...
