Ahhhhh…..the most controversial of subjects: snorkels (lol)

That’s one costly snorkel!! Fair point though, my reference point is just Mexico. But scuba stuff tends to cost way more here than in the US, so I’d be surprised if you can’t get a cheap basic snorkel in the 15-20 bucks range up there. Make it 40, even - still a pretty cheap purchase!

    Cozumel/Cancun/PDC recommendations

The diving in the shallower sites on the continental side is not as bad as they make it out to be. The reefs are nothing compared to Cozumel, but you can get plenty of very colorful schools of fish and marine life. It’s fine, and plenty fun. See if you can make it out to Puerto Morelos for a...

Ahhhhh…..the most controversial of subjects: snorkels (lol)

A snorkel is less than $15 bucks even in overpriced tourist locations. Not really worth the research time, IMO - if in doubt, just buy one and then you’ll either use it or you won’t 🤷🏻‍♂️

Am I being a wimp about these dive plans, or is this how you become a better diver?

Just wanted to echo this. If the sites are known dive sites commonly visited by OW divers, then they are most likely benign - but that is really a personal thing. If you don’t feel it, go somewhere else or back to site 1 - the fish are never the same!! As for AOW dive samples, I didn’t do...

Question Newbie: Worried about water temperature

An option can be to take whatever is the standard rental wetsuit they give out, and ask for an extra shorty that you can add on top for extra warmth. If it turns out you need the additional shorty, then you’ll know you should get a thicker suit next time. Hoods and hooded vests also help quite...

Trip Report El Cantil + Tres Pelicanos (3Ps) => Perfection!!!

About Casa Mexicana, I’d add to ask for a room that doesn’t have a connecting door to your neighbor. I stayed there recently and the people in the next room were not being loud or anything, just talking at normal volume - but it sounded like they were sitting in bed with me. The only way I would...

You are given a credit card with an infinite amount of money, but can only be used at dive shops. What’s your dream setup?

I (and probably most divers) don't have just one "dream setup", and would rather end up with a warehouse of unused dive gear that I bought because well, I have the infinite credit card and gear is fun, so why the hell not. The days of researched purchases would be over, I would just buy a bit of...

    That is super cool!!

    What's your "thing?"

I always seem to be the only one excited to see hermit crabs. Not sure why, but I love seeing those guys - especially if I catch them walking. I'm sure other divers always think I'm a weirdo, pointing at suspicious shells hehe

Dock fees have jumped the shark at the Cozumel Palace

Aldora, mentioned above, has boat coats on their boats that you can borrow. Other ops might too, not sure. So if you are willing to use a borrowed one, you only really need to bring the wetsuit - and a dry bag with any other optional goodies like the phone or snacks.

    Verifying dives

VIP restrooms are over rated. The ocean remains the prettiest thing I have ever peed into!

    Playa Del Carmen help ASAP

Hi! I mostly dive with Diversland and have recently done a couple with CenoteXperience and can comfortably recommend either. They might be able to pick you up, depending on where you are staying. You can also try some of the larger Ops like Phocea, ScubaPlaya or Dressel. More chances of...

OK, so I want it easy: What software for post?

Thank you! In case it helps others planning to use the Quik app - I think that the app adjusts the bitrate and resolution of exports depending on device capabilities, so if you have an older or cheaper phone you may run into the same issue as me (though mine is not that old, an iPhone X from...

OK, so I want it easy: What software for post?

Do you do anything specific to export video out of the Quik software? I am more than happy with its editing features, but I find that as soon as I save it to my phone or export it out of the app in any way, the resulting file has very low quality. Blocky definition, grainy - very low resolution...

    Gear Washing!

After a sea dive, small stuff (gopro, computer, mask, lamp, regulators) gets soaked in the shop's rinse buckets if available and then go into tupperware/buckets to soak a bit more at home, after some rinsing under the sink. Wetsuit, fins and bcd soak under the shower for a bit, then hung to dry...

    Diving after smoking cessation

The idea that “to have any real fun you NEED a tech course” is simply not true. Some of the nicest, most fun dives I’ve had were shallower than 10m. Endless NDL, loooooong air time, warmth, plenty of light to make the colors around you pop… and you barely need to worry about anything other than...

    2022 Dive Goals?

Dive dive dive, don’t get bent, don’t die. More specifically: -I may move to California in a few months. If so, then learn to dive a dry suit, get comfortable with the new environment, meet new dive buddies in the area. -If that doesn’t happen and I stay in Mexico, then side mount and cavern...

    Vuela Seguro Protection

Yup, you are meant to fill it out every time you get on a flight in Mexico. In practice, I have never been asked for it on the way in, but I have occasionally when boarding a domestic flight.

The link is not loading in my phone so I couldn’t read it, but I would assume “foreigners residing in Mexico” means foreigners with a legal residency card in Mexico, not tourists. That is what it usually means for discounts to museums, archeological sites, etc. [EDIT] The link loaded but it...
