    Calculating buoyancy of a BP/W

Spreadsheet is a good idea! - I just dove 10L steel this weekend, only having ever dove 80AL and ended up overweight with no (extra) weight.

    Calculating buoyancy of a BP/W

Seems like -6Lbs is certainly close enough, if you end up taking into account the plate, the STA, harness, etc. Even if the plate is -4 you end up -6.

    Replacing cylinder valve - inspection?

I'm asking this because I'm pretty inexperienced (and not at all certified to inspect anything). If someone (certified) does visual inspections of cylinders, and the cylinders have current hydro, then the cylinders should be good to go for a year (in theory yes). If we wanted to replace a valve...

Recommended Dive Shops/Centers in Koh Samui

I just got back and we used Discovery Divers out of Koh Samui - I would recommend them. They were on point with communication and the boats were pretty fast, fun dives. I felt like safety was taken very seriously.

Can I visually identify a pull dump on the inflator assembly?

Yeah there are some vents but I thought maybe that was over pressure relief, or whatever that's called.

Can I visually identify a pull dump on the inflator assembly?

My dive rite wing has one too, but there's no way to tell visually - I orally inflated mine and apparently it does have one.

Can I visually identify a pull dump on the inflator assembly?

There's a lot of talk about rapid exhaust ports (pull dump), but I can't actually find any examples of inflator assemblies that have it vs assemblies that don't have it (elbow).

Colder Water Isn't Just Colder Water

I’m not here to blame anyone. Except myself. Have around 24 hours bottom time all with the same buddy. We’ve never dove colder water before, we’re from FL and our coldest dive before yesterday was 68°F at deepest. Our average bottom temp was 78°F. We’ve always dove 3mm suits and boots. In...

"Not just a dust cap" cap

If you put any force on the inlet, it recedes a bit into the first stage, thereby opening the ACD - the ACD plate doesn't move.

Cleaning some rust off first stage

Thanks, all. It might not be the ACD that's rusting, it could be from a tank. Unfortunately the last time I dove with it was more than a year ago  I'll see about wiping it off. Okay, green scotch brite worked pretty well for the reg and magic eraser for the cap. There is still some...

Cleaning some rust off first stage

Aqualung Titan LX - I was checking my first stage and I have some rust apparent on the yoke inlet (or ACD?)- and the rubber cap - Is this something I can clean off / remove myself? If so, how? Vinegar/water and toothbrush? Thanks!

    Alternobaric Vertigo?

Middle ear barotrauma in both ears - didn't burst a drum though. Going to find an ENT this week, hopefully.

    Alternobaric Vertigo?

So something happened over the weekend and I'm still a little puzzled about what we should have done. Two divers, both at around 20 dives - every dive together. My buddy pretty much always has difficulty equalizing ears - since we were OW certified. She always takes it slow down and will...

    Advice on SPG

Went with a simple brass and glass 1.5" face. Used it for the first time on two dives this weekend, I really like it. No boot, so I'm trying to be really careful out of water. I ended up zip-tying a snap hook onto the hose, but I placed it so it can't come in contact with the glass. It also...

Trying to understand my air consumption

Thanks, All. I've only had my computer since January, so I added in my average depth for the dives that I have it for - just for completeness. I'll look into calculating SAC. The wing was apparently 55lb, but it was bungied and I felt my trim was better than the dive the weekend before. I'm...

    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls

So I just necro'd this post about paying for parking to see if that is still the case. I drove down this weekend and by the time I got there, there wasn't anywhere to park so we didn't get a chance to dive. Does anyone about this? Or paying to park in general? I heard some rumors some of the...

Trying to understand my air consumption

So this weekend I finally got to try out a BP/W configuration (rented) rather than jacket style BC (also all rented). To date, that would be dives #16 and #17 (hence basic discussion). The rig I got to try out had a wing for doubles, but I was only on a single, so I know the wing was a little...

Locate where (PADI) Specialty Courses are Offered

If I want to find out where there is an instructor for a specific PADI course, how can I do that? All I can find is a way to search for shops around me and then click through to see what courses they offer. Say I really wanted a Railroad Yard Diver distinctive specialty - how would I find...

    Advice on SPG

I'm looking for advice on an SPG (imperial). I'll be running Aqualung Titan LX 1st & 2nd. I have a wrist mount computer already - zoop. What I've gathered is I should be looking for an SPG that is "brass and glass" - but what I'm confused about is the rubber boot. I've read the debate and...
