    Your thoughts on Family Doctors

I just went to the site listed by UP in the previous post, and I thought I'd add that it is a great site to check out, even if you don't live in the PNW. It has a bunch of good info on various aspects of diving medicine, and links to a bunch more good stuff. Thanks, UP! otter-cat

    Pantyhose?

Pantyhose work great under drysuits for added warmth with virtually no extra bulk. I have frequently wondered whether the same benefit would apply when using a wetsuit. Has anyone actually tried this? I think pantyhose are cheaper than skinsuits.... otter-cat:rolleyes:

    Rescue Diver!!!

DeepSeaDan, Those were some great thoughts you put out there, and I wish all of that had been discussed in my rescue diver course. I think that it still might be appropriate to continue to TEACH in-water rescue breathing for two reasons: 1) For use in the possible instance where it...

    SCUBA sales Reps. on Board?

I'd be pretty surprised if there weren't any manufacturers' reps on the board. After all, part of their job SHOULD be keeping in contact with people who use their products. It doesn't bother me as long as they identify where they are coming from when they endorse equipment that they sell. I...

    Does your LDS support you?

My LDS has helped me out everytime I needed it, even when they made no money off of it. When I was a new diver, they even helped me check out a barely used drysuit I found to make sure it was safe since I couldn't afford to buy a new one from them! End result: I kept coming back to the shop...

    what time is it?

Does it sound like this: Tock-tick. Tock-tick. Tock-tick. .... as you turn back time at scubaboard?

    Sasy

I can see why the kids might really like it, if it looks more "grown up" to them, as well as the advantages of having them get in the habit of using a regulator, checking their guages, setting up gear, etc. On the other hand, I can also see the dangers involved in letting a child who cannot use...

    Do fish play?

Well, I'm certainly not among the more knowledgeable people when it comes to marine life, but I'm wondering just how we would recognize "play" in that environment. Here are some guesses at possibilities: Do octopi play? I've read that they are fairly intelligent. Flying fish? Do they...

    Questionable advice

That's one of the scariest things I've heard about any LDS. Make sure that you tell your brother that he and his wife BOTH need to get certified...SOMEWHERE ELSE! For the safety of other divers, the situation merits some investigation. Call the shop anonymously and ask if they will give...

    Dumbest Thing You Have Done...

But at least once per trip I stick my head through the neck seal of my drysuit BEFORE putting my arms in. You'd think I'd learn....

    Look out for stolen drysuit!

About a week ago, my drysuit was stolen!;-0 Although I already posted a thread about it in the Basic Scuba Discussions forum, I realized that the Exposure Suits forum might be read by more people who could possibly be shopping for a used drysuit, and therefore might see mine, if the thief is...

    The great Mask Defog Thread

I just posed the question of whether spitting in your mask can cause eye infections or is sterile to one's own body in the Diving Medicine forum. Hopefully one of the good doctors on the board can "clear up" this issue for us!;) I would have included the link to that thread, but I couldn't...

Eye infections from spitting in mask?

In a thread about mask defogging methods in the General Equipment Discussions forum, it was stated that spitting in your mask to defog it can lead to eye infections. Someone else then suggested that a person's spit is sterile to their own body, and therefore should not cause eye infections...

    Multi-level tables

Dr Deco, I was wondering if the precise manufacture of the Wheel you refer to is something that can wear away over time. In other words, after being used for some time, is it possible for the discs to become out of alignment? I have never used the wheel, so I am not sure what is really...

    Your thoughts on Family Doctors

My current GP is the best doctor I have had in my life. Although I have almost no choice in providers due to my insurance situation, and she too is plagued with the problems experienced by MDs/DOs in an HMO type system, I am one of the lucky few to have ended up with a fantastic doctor for my...

    What type of weight belt?

The best weight belt system I have ever tried is one made by a company in South Africa called Bright Weights. They are also sold in the USA, I think through a company in Florida, although they are sometimes hard to find. You can also get a whole system, which includes ankle weights and tank...

    Stolen drysuit in the PNW

Thanks all for your support. I'm definitely pretty bummed about the whole thing, but since I can't change the past, I'm trying not to let it get me down. Yes, it was in fact on the Hood Canal. The neoprene color was still pretty bright, not too faded, although certainly not brand new...

How much weight in COLD water?

Shadow, If I am using an Aluminum 80, I wear 40 lbs. I dive with a neoprene drysuit (or at least I did, until it was stolen last weekend...but that's another story.) When I use a steel tank, I take off about 5 lbs. I wear fleece underneath my drysuit, but I don't know their particular...
