    Boot dryer opinions?

My drysuit has sock-type booties so I just turn the whole thing inside out to dry the inside. I guess that may not be possible with attached boots, but if you could turn it inside out to the point where the boots start, then I assume you could towel dry them first and then point a regular fan...

Oxycheq Mach V Razor 30# (with pics)

I did my first 3 dives on this rig and just wanted to report that there was no venting or air trapping problems as far as I could tell. The wing is so narrow that it vents really easily, and the way I pull the dump cord the left bottom corner gets squeezed flat against the tank (again because...

Question re: Wrist Cuff Exhaust Valve on Drysuit

My cuff dump is adjustable. When fully open and arm raised it dumps fast. It's sort of huge for the forearm though (regular shoulder dump size). Just something to consider if you decide to go the cuff dump route.

What is the best info you have learned on SB?

I learned a lot about gear, in particular about backplates and wings, various kick styles and DIR - all of which have had a profound influence on my diving subsequently, but that I might not have otherwise found out about until much later. That said I still had to go through a bunch of wings and...

    RG2500 to RG2500 ICE

Is it easy to add (something a non-professional could do)? Because if it is then I could just order the environmental kits rather than sending the regs in for the upgrade.

    Digital Bottom Timer

One guy on TDS told me they are now available in the US (imperial version). Though the price he mentioned was something like $240, whereas I paid about $160 for mine shipped (metric version), and that was despite the weak $. (scubastore had them even cheaper but they wouldn't ship to US, at...

    Digital Bottom Timer

The new uwatec bottom timers display average depth in gauge mode in case that's a bonus. the battery life per manual is 10-13 years depending on how actively you dive it.

    bp/w Interchangability and wing reccomendations

Besides, you can use some STA's to rig independent doubles without needing expensive special ID bands. Works well for me with my DSS plates and Oxy lightweight STA (though I did buy longer carriage bolts because the default ones were a PITA to use although they worked - I had to press real hard...

"The World's first power heated wetsuit"

Did you end up getting one? How is it?

    bp/w Interchangability and wing reccomendations

I like the STA. Keeps the wing in place and makes some things easier. And of course the heavy ones are good for adding weight. Yes, drag is increased and stability reduced, both marginally, but by the same token you probably gain wing capacity (marginally) from the wings with extra narrow center...

    Sizing for ScubaPro Jetfins

Same problem here with XL jets. I switched to XL power fins, at least for the moment, and so far now foot problems. However, when I use the jets I put a thick pieces of neoprene (from an old suit) on my feet at the spot hit by the jet pocket. I use socks with my booties, and the socks would keep...

    First stage hitting head

That's what I used to do. I recently added another hole to each of my backplates so that I can put the STA one notch lower, but I may still need to the same trick you are talking about. Ideally the basic STA would have the cam strap slots set lower to begin with. By the way, if the top cam...

    Is 30# lift enough?

I wouldn't base my wing purchase decision on agency requirements. If there was a problem I'd either use another agency, or I'd rent or borrow the wing.

hooded (chicken) vest - getting out??

I just pull the hood 'off' first, then cross my arms to grab as far back as I can reach from the bottom of each side of the vest and just pull it off in one go. It does take a bit of force to get it past the shoulders but my hooded vest is only 3mm neoprene in the torso so it stretches. That...

    Is 30# lift enough?

If you search in the BCD section titles with "lift" in them then you'll get a good answer. Basically it should be enough to offset the gas in your tank/s when full and the compression of your wetsuit. For a large tank that's about 10# of air, for an AL80 it's 6#. Next see how much lead it...

Oxycheq Mach V Razor 30# (with pics)

The 30# Mach V Razor is 5.5 inches thick when fully inflated. And here's what I meant by it being more square when full than perhaps some other wings:

Oxycheq Mach V Razor 30# (with pics)

Sure. The center panel is 3.25" wide the way I measure it. See for yourself: By the way, the pic also shows a close-up of the tank roll control rods. And another thing I noticed was that the gussets are still on the tank side as well as along the "perimeter" (to misuse the term) of the wing...

Oxycheq Mach V Razor 30# (with pics)

I just got my new wing this morning, and since it's a brand new model from Oxycheq I thought I'd post a few pics and thoughts. In general it's a super slick bladderless wing with a slight rear bias in lift. STA is not required, but I will use one anyway. I do have a few concerns concerning the...

For newbies: Step by step guide to how to make a surgical tubing necklace

Here's another way to make a bungee necklace (using zip ties): I made this for someone else, and that's why I left some sparse bungee there that he may then cut off after adjustments if required. Anyway, this way is a bit simpler and cleaner imo than using fisherman's knots. I never liked...
