Almost a poll...how many divers on this board are landlocked?

170 miles to the nearest quarry. 200 miles to the Gulf coast. 2 miles to the Chattahoochee River, but I don't dive it because I'd glow in the dark. Epinephelus: I must drive by you on the way to the gulf. Jarhead

How do you make people aware of bad divers?

They can't fix it if they don't know it's broke. But, "polite and tactful are the keys to that lock". If they refuse to try to fix it, then it's time to get a new buddy. Jarhead

The importance of the 'right hand rule?'

In an emergency, you would drop the weight belt AFTER you reach the surface. Not before the ascent. Jarhead

    First Meeting

Tonight we had our first meeting to form a local dive club. We had about 16 divers present (there were several non-diving spouses which we encourage). We decided to go without dues as long as possible . We will be fairly informal, but did elect three officers (Skipper, Clerk & Trip Coordinator)...

    SSI or IANTD Nitrox?

That's exactly what they did! I took the classroom portion here locally last November and made the dives in the gulf this past April. Can't get much more convenient than that. PS: Any time spent diving (for any reason) in NOT wasted. But won't drive four hours to dive?

    SSI or IANTD Nitrox?

It gave me an excuse to drive four hours to the coast and DIVE. Since when do we divers try to get out of diving? BTW, Nitrox class is only $100.00 plus dive trip costs around here. Sure, why not? As divers we should always be looking to improve our dive skills. MF or RM have to put...

    Does Nitrox "Feel Good"

The first one was Nitrox. I do feel better after diving with Nitrox instead of regular air. I used to dread the drive home after a Sunday dive becuase of being tired (4 hour drive). The second change was slow ascents. After AOW class, I've slowed my ascents from 30fpm to 10fpm. This seems to...

    tornadoes

None of these mentioned have much effect on tornado-proofing. The problem with tornados is the air pressure drop as the tornado passes over (or very close by). Since the house can't "vent" (or off-gas :) ) the air inside fast enough, the house quite literally explodes. Sorta like filling a milk...

    tornadoes

What would you suggest? Brick homes don't fair any better. The only homes I know of that are "tornado-proof" are underground houses. Jarhead

Way off topic, but is anyone in the restaurant biz?

Does that mean you're a Bouncer or the Health Dept. Inspector? ;) Jarhead

I voted for #4 so it wouldn't feel lonesome. Face it. A #4 is twice as good as a #2. Jarhead

Thanks for the post/report. I'm hoping to take the cavern course next year (late winter/early spring). If I can get the schedule and budget to line up. :) Jarhead

    Sea Elite BCD's

It is the Expedition model (but not the one on their website now). They redesigned several of their models last year. BTW, they are made in USA. If you set it and a Dive Rite Transpak II side-by-side, They are almost identical, except the Expedition has pockets and integrated weight pockets...
