Got certified w/ my wife (now ex-wife) back in Jan 2000 - we did one dive together- in Catalina and it was not her thing. Never did another dive with her. And it was fine, we did other stuff on vacations like snorkeling and swimming.
in what scenario would a diver be using this skill?
Well entanglement would be a scenario.
But I believe the real reason to have a student run through this skill- is to show that they can manage the gear- not- that the gear is somehow managing them.
This skill sends home the whole...
You're not a failure. You gave it a solid try - and by reading through your post - you came a loong way in the last three days ! I think learning scuba in a drysuit all during your open water classes is sometimes just too much. But the water temp kind of necessitates it.
Drysuit diving is...
All good points here. And yes, certainly everything I type is my own opinion.
I've been looking at/ buying/ selling dive gear since before I even started scuba...so 20 + years ago.
I've seen people asking just top dollar for very used gear and it makes me raise eyebrows like Mr. Spock every...
This thread is just more of a head check for sellers and potential sellers- on Scubaboard.
I'm seeing a lot of classified ads here and Offer Up, FB Marketplace and Craigslist for dive gear.
The prices that people think their gear will sell for - is roughly 40%-50 % higher than reality.
I...
The money is the most prohibiting factor. My god...it's always the $.
I can only think of one hobby that's more expensive- and that's learning to fly.
Pilot lessons are ruh-dic-ulous.
Ricky,
I'm going to say that you will have a hard time selling a used dry suit - at that price -
many people will call $ 1000.00 a hard limit on a used suit. Even w/ the undergarment and that it's lightly used - asking $ 2200 seems very steep.
The PST photo below - are all chipped blue paint - but - to me it's a non-issue, I don't plan on looking cool at Cove 2 in Seattle.
The Fabers are like new - white paint.
I've got the chance to buy a pair of Faber HP100 3442 psi cylinders in about two weeks - when they are back from hydro. The set are from the same lot - literally about 6 cylinders apart from each other during production. I've never dove on Faber HP100's before, but I've ben diving Faber LP95...
I'm not a marine biologist. I still would like to see these critters behave in their natural world - without boats buzzing, chumming, and divers feeding and filming them.
All the while - I'm secretly wanting to cage dive w/ great whites off the coast of MX. I just love those sharks that much...
Years ago - I heard from my PADI instructor: " Percentage of accidents while bowling is .04%. With scuba it's .03 % and the reason bowling is more dangerous than scuba is because bowling has alcohol involved."
But in seriousness - perception of the risk - can maybe itself be defined by all...
I installed the KUBI dry gloves on my DUI CF200 a few months ago. Yep - I've used a tiny bit of my undergarment thumb loop to give some space for air flow. Have not had one drop enter the suit at the glove/ wrist seal yet.
I would teach a dry-suit pool session to any student who signed up for it.
It was common in Seattle to have a few divers a month getting familiar with dry suits.
Nobody here stays diving in a wet suit for very long. And once they went dry... well... nobody went back to wet suit diving...
I cut and paste straight outta the GUE book: "Stabilizing and controlling buoyancy while managing additional tasks. If a diver is finding it difficult to stay neutral while dealing with other tasks, they should segment the tasks/skills into smaller parts and stabilize buoyancy between each...
