I think a better takeaway is that when you must return to the up-line, you should make that part of the dive plan. Learn to plan excursions away and back, including a contingency reserve. Take into account the current when you have to fight it on the return.
Don't get me wrong, I think your...
I'd say the 80s were a good choice, then. It would have sucked if the different tank worsened your trim, possibly making you stir things up more than you did.
Make gear changes on easy/familiar dives so you're not dealing with multiple challenges.
I'd consider the machine shop to be advanced as there are dangles that can catch your tank and an exit isn't visible at all times (that I can recall, at least).
You might consider the Deep6 Eddy fins. Similar buoyancy, tons of power, and far more maneuverable. Sounds like you'll be doing more...
I suggest you plan the various dives using your SAC and desired safety margin when starting the ascent (minimum gas planning). (Do it for the air/Nx, Nx/air, and Nx/Nx cases.) By quantifying the benefit *for you*, you can make an educated decision.
As an example, assuming an average...
You have to delete the cache in the shearwater app.
Connect computer to app via Bluetooth.
Ensure selected dives are deleted in both the computer log and the app.
Select the "Connect" tab at the bottom of the app screen.
Then click on: Downloadable Dives > Advanced Options > Clear Cache
One tip for picking up a tank is to have a bit of breath in your lungs as you blip the wing inflator until the tank completely lifts. Exhale and you'll be darn close to neutral with tank in-hand. The point is to compensate for the natural overshoot, and a similar thing can be done when dropping...
Imperial version since the OP is in Michigan:
(Pstart - Pend) * (Vfull / Pfull) / (Davg_ft/33+1) / Time_minutes
For an AL80, Vfull=77 cuft, Pfull=3000psi, Pstart & Pend use the same units as Pfull. Use 34 rather than 33 if you're in fresh water.
In practice, I use hundreds of psi and have...
The gas plays a pretty large role. I put LP85s+Nx32 on my drop-Ds, but 18/45 goes on the hip rings because the tails lift (though that will also depend on the band height, so very personal). Clocking of the clip & bungees are related, so you will have to try it and see if you are getting dug in...
"Constantly degrading" seems rather inaccurate. In the tub (once recapped), after the CO2 is converted, it stops degrading -- the reactants are no longer present. A closed canister is no different as it is also sealed (just with a bit more volume).
Top of the knob "closer" to your face while breathing from the reg is "closing" it. You will see a gap between knob and the reg body when fully open, and the gap closes as you turn the knob closed. Hope it helps...
Not necessarily, and a couple possibilities come to mind. The most likely is that newer divers often breath from the top (or middle) of their breathing range, and the greater residual volume needs more lead in order to be neutral. A related effect is breathing more rapidly and not taking the...
