Yes. Subtract for the test, then add it back before the real dive.

The Journey to Decompression Procedures with Sidemount

You're likely looking down, which often results in yoyoing. Eyes up and things become easier. Also: You will want to blip your wing as the next to last step in each process. This keeps your breathing in the normal range. Lastly, the last pickup step is backwards. You need to exhale (since you...

    Normal config to Long Hose

Such a bar works well for a 7' hose. The 5' hose -- being 2 ft shorter -- won't even reach the hip. It stays in place nicely with just the wrap around the torso.

    help me pick wetsuit

That ain't perfect, then. 😉 A 3mm should go on & off VERY easily. IME, wetsuits tend to tighten over time unless used extremely often. Of your two choices, the Bare sounds like the better choice for you.

    Under weighted New Diver

+1. An alternative is to check with full tanks but reduce your lead by the amount of gas you haven't yet breathed. If all is well on the check, add the lead back in and do the dive. (This does require that you have that much lead in the first place.) A full AL80 has about 5 lb/2.5 kg of usable...

    Normal config to Long Hose

Another vote for 22"-24" for the short hose. That's the typical recommendation, and I found even 22" to be longer than necessary for my setup. <shrug> Have you had someone hold the hose at 24" at the 1st stage to test, or are you trying to mock this up by yourself?

Why Do Relaxed Divers Need Less Weight?

I know what you mean, but I see the term "breathing shallow" typically used for short breaths centered about nearly empty lungs. (Picture a safety stop when underweighted.) Generally, people talk about the lower, middle, and upper third of the lung capacity for the center/average of the cycle...

Why Do Relaxed Divers Need Less Weight?

Yep. A related aspect is breathing more slowly, allowing yourself time to exhale further and slightly sink ("undoing" the slight rise) before starting the cycle again. Our muscles are mostly made of water, which doesn't compress when squeezed. Tense and relaxed muscle fibers have about the same...

feet floating with Single Tank BP/Wing

All tanks are butt light when close to empty. (Don't forget about the valve and regulator.)

feet floating with Single Tank BP/Wing

On this one, I'd say the wing should be empty (negligible lift) at these pressures if properly weighted. I agree that wing placement is important, but that should be done with full tanks after first fixing the empty tank/wing trim. This aligns the wing lift and gas mass so trim is consistent...

feet floating with Single Tank BP/Wing

Definitely test with your fins on. After that, some possibilities: Bungee a lead brick to the crotch strap. This can sit in the "loop" where attached to the plate to take the majority of weight. Use an AL plate and 4 or 5 lb bricks on the waist. Negatively buoyant fins like Jets or F1s

How long does a steel tank usually retain its + rating in hydro?

Close the HP100 manifold and cascade from each in sequence. Should take an 850 psi LP50 to nearly 3100 psi and the second to ~2600. If the REE value is stamped on the 50s, you should be able to get a +, even if it was missed in the past.

    Question Older steel tank size

If they are indeed 15.3L volume at 3500 psi, that works out to 122 cuft including non-ideal gas compression effects.

Apeks DST 1st stage upside down

Since it's a turret, why not just rotate the 1/2 port to align with the wing and move the other hoses (while still pointing down/normal)? Mounting it upside down is more likely to bump your head.

    Standard gasses

@ginti - For a fair comparison, I think it's useful to maintain at least the same reserve factor for whatever problems arise, since silt, navigation errors, and busted hoses don't care about OC/CC. For OC, diving thirds of total gas, that safety factor is 2. At the turn, you have 2x the gas...

    Xenon therapy

My understanding is that anyone living at elevation will increase their RBC, and if playing high-intensity sports at sea level, they'd have an advantage lasting perhaps a week. However, diving isn't exactly aerobic. I've not noticed any meaningful difference in SAC or endurance, as examples...
