    Optima fx vs O2ptima?

If you need a 4th I may be posting it soon, latest revisions. ;) Besides the electronics, are the loop updates significant? Redesigned lungs, done away with the t-pieces and MAVS (IBOV on the new one)? Scrubber head also substantially different? Here's the old one I am eyeing to purchase...

    Optima fx vs O2ptima?

Anyone still happy with an Optima fx? Did they become an obsolete prototype unless upgraded? I could sell off my O2ptima freeing up cash for some decent video lights and still have enough left over to pick up a great deal on an Optima w/ hammerhead electronics. I'd need to do loose sorb...

    New tech dive computer

Interesting to notice what appears to be two battery compartments? The price is prohibitive for me regardless.

    One finger pogo?

I don't trust my home builds that deep. What made the biggest difference in fine tuning your buoyancy on the loop? (sorted decades ago I suppose) Cameron

    One finger pogo?

Nice clarification. I learned on an o2 unit with no 'bcd' other than the loop (and a drysuit). Diving the topaz loop as primary bcd carried over as long as I'm shallow enough and not wasting trimix for lift.

    One finger pogo?

Exactly right! The better you had gotten OC using breath for buoyancy the harder it is to transition to rebreather which is 100% 'bcd' where exhaling just moves air from your lung to your matched counterlung resulting in no change in buoyancy. It's tricky. Cameron

    One finger pogo?

For rebreather divers with 100+ hrs on the loop (arbitrary number) when you maintaining within 2ft of an uneven bottom how often do you use it to stabilize your position? (contact on any bottom contour or overhead with a finger or two, particularly when changing depths over an obstacle) Are you...

    Cave CCR?

Ah, let's hope the unwashed masses don't stumble into SB, end up on this thread and try it make sense of that post! :D Sounds horribly uncomfortable and perhaps rather inappropriate at best.

    Cave CCR?

Challenging. Depends on the level of perfection you're wanting and how able a learner you are. Here's mine, not a rebreather or cave instructor and fairly new to both still: My first half hour on a rebreather was a disaster of on the bottom or the surface in a few feet of water. Manual...

my byline/descriptor changed to public safety diver?

You can change that by joining a sub forum (group) . The various fish are automatically generated based on post count number. Or if you donate to the site you get the power to type a custom line there. If my writeup up is unclear I'm certain someone will help guide you through the process...

    New dromedary bladder

Half the fun of DIY is DIYing the DIY. I learned about the MSR bag from smarter divers than I. I appreciate when a fellow tinkerer with particular skills shares the creation with the group or even sell components to help the rest of us out. But the exchange of knowledge and problem solving...

Half blind divers, how do you do it?

Contacts work for me. In a true mask off situation if I needed to see I'd just wipe my contacts out by rolling my eyes to save them for later or wash them out... Otherwise I don't flood my mask with my eyes open anyway (risk of infections). In normal diving it is exceedingly rare to lose a...

    New dromedary bladder

As you mentioned up thread we are mainly recreational divers. I enjoy my hobby without the limitations imposed on the commercial or scientific dive community. Their protocols and equipment recommendations are also fairly unsafe and unsuitable for the caves where I do use a drink bladder as a...

    Cave CCR?

I'm a cave diver and a rebreather diver. I am not yet prepared to do both at once for significant dives. As per all skillsets related to diving, there is a course to help with that. One of the things a cave offers on a bad day is 0 viz, that's difficult on rebreather. Also navigation task...

    The luggage weighting game

I've had my carry on weighed in Dublin, Houston and Cancun and asked to pay a healthy fee. Each time I was far over weight but close to an acceptable size. My solution was to turn into a human bag. No issues with what was on my body and pocket contents do not count towards carry on bag...

Your Superman stories about unbelievable skill, bravery, or luck

I had the honor of sharing the water with a grandfather who signed up to learn to dive as a way of connecting and supporting his grandchild with special needs and some heavy disabilities. If ever there was a superman underwater, he comes close. He hadn't been in water since the 60s when his...
