    Flippers?!..lol

The whole fins vs flippers debate is stupid. I call them fins, some people call them flippers...who cares. If someone makes fun of you for calling them flippers, just smile and flipper 'em off.

    Hello diverdoug1,

I guess diverdougs think alike! I thought the same thing when I got that message but I intentionally didn't post anything for a couple of days so as to render the message counterproductive. TAKE THAT automated message...you don't own me!!! Wait... what if the message KNEW that would be my...

12 votes so far? Come on...I know you all have toes! Let's hear about your feet dammit!!

    Do you have Morton's Toe?

For those of you who don't know, Morton's Toe is when your second toe is longer than your big toe. This doesn't really have anything to do with SCUBA, I'm just curious (well, I guess technically it could present problems with boots and fins).

What if...? Dive Planning & Trust Me Dives

The fact that you even "kinda" took what I wrote seriously scares me. "I'll socialize and joke on my down time." You're online in a SCUBA forum...this is your down-time!

What if...? Dive Planning & Trust Me Dives

How about I create a book consisting of interviews with multiple DIW divers and call it: "Different Strokes."

What if...? Dive Planning & Trust Me Dives

What would you do if you reached your agreed upon turnaround pressure and your buddy or the DM pushed on with the dive (rather than turning around)? Proceed onward. If there's one thing I learned in school, it's that authority figures are not to be questioned. What would you do if the DM...

    What if...? Miscellaneous Problems

What would you do if your buddy started making fun of how much air you use? Hold him down at dive-knife point, then force him to smoke a pack of cigarettes so his air consumption will be worse than mine. What would you do if another diver criticized your gear? Cry, and ask the DM to...

    Hollis f1 sizing Qews

Actually, I would think you'd get more thrust with the F1's. The Jets and F1's are pretty similar as far as stiffness is concerned, but the F1 is slightly longer and wider therefore the F1's would likely give you more thrust.

    Jetfin Alternative?

For a JetFin-like fin, check out the Hollis F1. I own these fins and love them, plus I have yet to read a single negative review about them. I previously owned the Mares Quattros and found that the F1's gave me noticably more precision, better trim, a more powerful flutter kick, and a...

Dive recommendations for Fri eve/Sat morning

Not sure about boat dives, but I would guess that shore-diving is out for Sat. Like Frankpro1 said conditions are bad AND there's supposed to be another storm heading in tomorrow. I typically dive in Laguna and San Diego and it has been my experience that bad weather has a big impact on San...

XXL fin sizing: Slipstream vs. Hollis F1

I believe that the XXL foot pocket on the F1 is huge. I remember reading a review where a guy was using a size 13 wetsuit booty and felt the XXL was way too sloppy; so I gather that it is a very large foot pocket (I think I also read a review of a guy with size 14 rock boot that fit in the XXL...

    Kick styles

I think your best bet is to learn different kicking styles and use them as you see fit. I frog-kick most the time; not for any particular reason other than that it is the most comfortable kicking-style for me. If I want to cover a long-distance quickly or fight a current, I'll use a flutter...

    solo dive definitions?

I define solo-diving as: diving solo :D. No need for the definition to get slippery...like firediver said; if I enter alone, dive alone, exit alone then it's a solo dive. I don't think a dive loses it's solo-status just because there happens to be other divers in the water. Solo-cert is...

    Scubapro Jetfins

Scubapro Jet Fin. Fins Open heel, Scubastore.com, buy, offers, dive (I don't know if they ship to Turkey though) There's only one type, unless you count the "twin jet" which is a split fin. There are other brands that offer a similar fin such as Hollis F1, OMS slipstream, and XS Scuba...

    Cave diving depth question.

I'm not a cave diver, but this is something I'm curious about and I figured people here would know. How does depth work (as far as gas management, decompression limits, etc. are concerned)? What I mean is this: Let's say you enter, for example, a passageway near the surface that is, 10ft...

ever ruined a mask flaming it?

This is more than one sentence! Also "if a fire is needed to clean a mask the mfg would recommend it" isn't correct. First there's always the possibility someone will do it wrong and the manufacturers don't want to be liable. Second, just because manufacturers don't recommend it doesn't...
