can't really understand TTL fiber-optic cord function

I have an Olympus EPM-1 and two Sea and Sea YS-01 strobes. I tried the TTL mode on a trip to Bonaire last month. It seemed to function, but the pictures were uniformly overexposed. By this I mean that a night photo was overexposed about the same amount as daylight shots. I did not try...

why are there very few young divers?

I think you may be close to the reason. They avoid activities where they can't use their cell phones. Think how many messages and tweets you could miss in a one hour dive. Of course going off the grid to a remote dive destination would be torture for them.

my first diving experience, may be helpful for new divers.

Sounds like you are off to a great start. Finding an instructor and dive shop you are comfortable with really enhances the experience.

It took a long time to get this photo, they kept climbing out of the basket.

    Losing integrated weights

I use integrated weights and have had a weight pouch slip out once. Guess I got sloppy and did not get a positive click. Because I divide my weight pretty much equally between trim pockets and weight pouches, this was an inconvenience barely noticable at the start of a dive. If it had...

How are the reefs in Bonaire?

We stayed at Den Laman and dove with their on site dive operation Bonaire Dive and Adventure. Other than having a third floor room, I loved it.

How are the reefs in Bonaire?

I was there this month and saw no algae. I mainly dove southern sites, so cannot comment on the far north sites.

    Optimum bcd for kids?

My grandson has been using a Oceanic Explorer Youth BCD for three years. He just turned 13. Unfortunately it appears they quit making that model. I did a quick check and there are some available new and used. It was pricey, but if he needs a new one next year they are easy to resell.

First Oly EMP-1 Photos Bonaire Sept 2012

Most were with strobes, some of the shallow shots were natural light. The tube anemone was a night photo. I have two Sea and Sea YS-01 strobes.

    Bonaire Trip Report 9/14-9/21

We were at Den Laman during the same time you were next door. We were probably on the pier at the same time. Bari Reef is always good. We stuck to easy entries because I am an old guy with artificial hips. Oil Slick was the only northern site we dove. Karpata was too rough for us to dive...

    Hold on Wait a Minute

Our Local dive shops want you to get personal gear, but don't push other gear on OW students. They get you hooked first, then they make the money. Like dealing drugs. I didn't buy anything other than personal gear until I had quite a few dives, but I still find myself regularly replacing...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

I can find nothing in the manual about the computer adjusting for water temp? I don't think that is true. . Don't go Luddite on us rivers.

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

I don't agree with Beaverdiver that this is a terrific feature, but I don't think its harmful. At the worst it will kick in and make the dive more conservative. If you positively want a conservative factor on, you just activate it (a different function). You can "what if" all day? What if a...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

I disagree, using a sensor to trigger an adjustment has nothing to do with how the adjustment is made. It is the same as pressing a button. Adjustment on/adjustment off. Altitude adjustments are a method that makes for a more conservative profile. I have seen nothing that supports a specific...
