Canadian dies in Cenote Kalimba Tulum

Hey Some X Dry - Barbara here from SF. I have been following this; I've known Bernie since we did part of our cave training together but haven't been diving with him for a long time. Did your friends say what jumps the observed reel was connecting? Was it a major jump or one of the s/m passages?

    Memorial Service for Kristina Weese-Gomez

Dear Paul and Susan, I am so sorry for your unspeakable loss. I met Kris only once a few months ago but was taken with her kindness and cheer. She insisted on driving me a short distance so I would not be walking around in my dive suit. She was well loved and respected in our dive community...

    Low pressure hose incident

You are one lucky guy. A low pressure hose rupture can empty a tank in a few moments, as you no doubt know.... I've purchased H valves for my single tanks. Redundany is a good thing. (Sorry, the $20 goes toward the H valves). Best, Barbara/San Francisco

Close call in the dressing room

Those suits with the attached hoods and tight zippers can be lethal. It' s a good idea to take a "safety diver" when trying them on. 'Very embarrassing to die in the dressing room. Seriously, I once thought I was stuck forever. 'Glad all is well! Barbara/San Francisco

choosing BP/W for 145lb female new in sport

Hi Angela, welcome to Monterey diving. It looks like you've gotten your questions answered re: your rig. I believe you can rent a plate and wings from Monterey Bay Dive Center (at the end of Cannery Row near the Breakwater). Also, strongly consider getting a custom hood from Otter Bay...

    What would you do?

You can secure the inflator hose to your harness (and also your LP hose to the the corrugated black tubing) using bungee cord or a band of bicycle inner tube. That will keep your hoses snug and where you want them plus prevent them from hitting the coral or getting you entangled. Good luck...

    good dry suit undergarment alternatives

Re: drysuit undergarments---Most of the divers here (Monterey/Carmel, CA, water temps 40F-50F) swear by DUI's 400g Thinsulate. I bought one and don't like it. There's a tendency to get "shrink wrapped" unless you add a lot of air/argon to the suit. I get so shrinked that I can't reach my...

    (08 SEP 04) Panic Attack

I think it's important to distinguish between situational anxiety and panic attacks. Panic attacks are clinical phenomena--the hallmark is a sudden, intense feeling that one is about to die. It's typically accompanied by two or more of several specific symptoms (tachycardia, sweating, choking...

Recently I responded to a distress call on a boat--"diver unconscious at the surface." He was aboard the inflatable by the time our boat arrived. I gave him two person basic life support as we sped to the marina. Unfortunately he did not survive. Tha paramedics worked on him, as did the...
