Lesson learned the hard way, and my first dive experience

I had a similar experience when I was getting certified. I actually perforated my ear drum because I could not equalize, was getting left behind and tried to force it. I got instant vertigo and that was probably the scariest thing that has happened to me under water. That event almost ended...

    SMB deployment....

In regards to #3, I happen to know a guy who deployed a lift bag in a class and shot his buddy to the surface...

    Losing a fin

When gearing up for our first dive in a training class at 40 Fathoms, my wife accidentally knocked her fin into the water off the dock. Of course we figured we were out of luck and wasted a long drive. Our instructor just said, "looks like you will be doing your class with one fin". She did...

    Looking for info...

Looks like a pretty decent, inexpensive way to get into your first set of gear. You may think about upgrading the console to some sort of computer, depending on how you want to dive. The Nitrox computer may be a little more expensive, but in my opinion worth the money. You would be able to...

    looking for gear bag

Blue Reef Mesh Dive Flag Bag from LeisurePro.com That is the bag I use. I picked it up from Divers Direct on Sale for about $15. It has worked very well so far, being mesh it allows the gear to dry out to a certain extent and not stink too bad.

    Using a pony bottle?

It seems like you are coming to the same conclusion I did about the backplate and wing. But, dont worry, if you do go to the tech stuff, you will soon have a garage full of equipment that makes the stuff you have now seem like it was nothing. A stage is not a pony. A stage is used to extend...

    Tech friendly regs?

"Someone had mentioned Salvo's..How do DR's and Salvos perform? It seems like they've got kind of a clique following, which in my experience is produced either by hit-or-miss performance and quality, or just because the name isn't as well known..." From what I have seen so far, Salvo puts out...

    Tech friendly regs?

If you are interested in the DR because of the parts availability and being able to service them yourself, be sure to check out the Salvo line too. Their part kits run around $20 and they will sell directly to consumers. They seem to be almost the exact same thing as the DR regs. Go to the...

SP Jet Fins vs Mares Quattro

I have both. I use the Quatros for my wetsuit diving and the jets for Drysuit diving for the extra weight. They are both great fins with plenty of power. Pick the fin that works best for you. Do you find yourself in a heads-down trim? If so, go with the jets. If you already have heavy...

Getting a Pinnacle Evo 2, what are your thoughts?

I went with the evo 1 for a couple of reasons. I am 5'11 and 160lbs, so I am not on the heavy side. The front zip suit will have more fabric on the front of the suit which would be a better fit for heavier people. Another reason i went with the rear entry is because I had recently gone to a...

Getting a Pinnacle Evo 2, what are your thoughts?

I got the Pinnacle (rear zip) version. Like everyone else has said, it is tough as nails and a great suit. I have the attached rubber boots on there and I have had no problems adapting. I did have very floaty feet at first, a set of jet fins took care of that for me and i havnt looked back...

    Ow- Aow?

On the advise of some others, I got my OW waited a year and many dives, then took my AOW right before my cavern course. The ONLY reason I even took AOW was some dive boats require it for some of the deeper dives. Like others have said, after diving a bunch, I really didnt get too much out of...

    Frog kick, drysuit, suit squeeze.

Disclaimer: I am still fairly new to drysuit diving. I noticed some of the same problems you are experiencing. I origonally started diving dry with my Avanti Quatros. If any air went to my feet I went head down feet up every time. I switched to the SP jet fins and this completely fixed my...

Hypothetically.... If you were certified by an instructor last week, and then that instructor had his license revoked for unsafe teaching practices (or other reason) this week, would your certification still be valid?

Aeris Atmos 2 computer Battery Icon

I purchased 2 Atmos 2's in October of 06. One is used by me, on for my wife/dive buddy. Mine has been working fine. Hers does a weird thing when it starts up. The red light on the front comes on, it beeps and the battery icon flashes like it is dead and the unit shuts off. After we press...

Another quick fin sizing question for evolution drysuit

Quick question for you jet fin divers. I just bought a pinnacle evolution drysuit with the standard size 12 boots. I got some XL jet fins which i can not get past the ball of my foot. Would the XXL jet fin be too huge? I appreciate your recommendations on this and spring strap size. If...

    Drysuit trouble...

This has been a very helpful thread as I just got a new drysuit myself. I have used it in the pool a couple of times now, and the tips on how much air to keep in the suit really helped. All my problems came from having too much air in the suit. I do have another question for those of you...

    Pinnacle Evo 2

I also ordered an Evolution rear zip drysuit from them. I sent my measurements in for both me and my fiance. I would have to say they nailed the size spot on for both of us using the standard sizes. I am very pleased with the quality/fit/price of these suits.
