Is that 18lbs of weight in addition to a steel backplate and a steel tank, for a 2-3mm wetsuit? To me, that sounds like quite a lot - about what I use diving a drysuit with fairly thick undergarments.
To your point about trim, where on your rig is the weight?
There aren't really rec or tec passes any more. You do Basic Fundamentals or Technical Fundamentals (or fundies-lite, Performance Diver). For a newer diver, Basic Fundamentals looks like the course you're probably after.
I’ve had some luck printing scooter accessories (bottom timer/compass mounts) in ASA Aero, which has a density around 0.6g/cm3. It’s light enough that my 180g bottom timer can be neutral when placed in its 3d printed mount.
I also have some designs for Goodman handles that combine a 3D printed...
No, he asked for one that charges without opening.
Nanight X1 is a really good middle ground (I think): charges with an external connection, but you always have the option to easily replace the battery (any button-top 21700).
Nanight X1. I have one; it's very much (to me) like a smaller, better version of the Sola 2500 S/F, but with a user-replaceable battery (21700) and a tighter spot.
I can’t talk to the ‘simplest’ gloves, but I use the 720s (or 721) with the Smart system and they’re not bad to install. Easier than on the Kubi/Rolock systems for sure.
there's no actual confirmation of this, but I don't see how they get to the power/runtime numbers in this scooter or the new Goldfinders without using a brushless motor.
So the only real downside I'm seeing between this and my (older) XJ-S is the 100m depth rating. Apart from that, the new Quantum VR appears to have similar runtime/power, less weight, smaller, quieter, and external charging!
Their claims of 'patents pending' got me curious - here's the only relevant one I can find, which is for the sonar system. Looks like Aqualung acquired it from Michael Hollis/PPG a few years ago.
Compared to Garmin's, it looks relatively similar, but the integration of a beamforming array...
I have a standard cheapy air regulator (1/4” NPT in/1/4” NPT out), with a scuba LPI -> 1/4 NPT on the inlet port, and a standard air hose QD on the outlet.
This setup can plug into any scuba LP hose, and convert it into air tool QD while also stepping the pressure down to something...
XDeep Project NX wing, almost new. Bought in early 2024 and only been in the water twice. I’ve used it quite happily with both 8” and 7.25” tanks.
Pictured with a backplate, but listing is for wing only. If you need a plate as well, PM me and we can probably work something out.
$300 USD...
I’m in Victoria so similar local diving environment. I’ve had a 4th Element M2M suit for 2 1/2 years now, and I have no complaints whatsoever with it. They have a service center in Vancouver, which is a huge plus IMO as leaks/repairs can easily be sorted.
I also have friends locally who have...
The only RF antennas the Garmin is going to have are for 2.4GHz and the GLONASS radios - much much smaller than the much lower-frequency antennas used for the MH8A transmitter.
I can’t, because I’m not an expert on the topic. But I do know that UN38.3 testing covers a bunch of thermal/shock/vibration testing. I also know that every time I’ve bought weird custom battery packs (assembled packs), they’ve required non-air shipping because they’re not UN38.3 tested. I also...
I highly recommend the Ammonite connector, FWIW. There's a couple Canadian stores that stock Ammonite (Benithic does?), but you can also order from Shop4Divers and shipping to Canada isn't an issue. I bought the Ammonite valve after my Santi connector died and I got frustrated trying to replace...
This thread has reminded me to once again recommend the excellent Knipex ‘pliers wrench’ for scuba applications. Parallel sided jaws grip very well, it tends to not mark up chrome at all, and the jaws are very thin.
It comes in various sizes, but the 180mm version extends out to 40mm, and the...
This is quite interesting. The outdoor climbing/skiing community in Scotland has seen a notable increase in reckless conduct cases referred by Stirling police in Scotland. I’m not certain, but I strongly suspect that the Clyde (which seems to be around where these people were rescued) would fall...
