Calling all commercial divers, newbi needs help.

I'm not a commercial diver, but from what I've heard, if you have an engineering degree or know how to weld or have some other usefull trait to add to scuba diving, you'll probably be alot better off. Good luck.

    SDA Nitrox card accepted??

The biggest advantage to nitrox is it decreases your surface interval so you can get in more repetative dives.. which is awesome if you're on a dive trip and want to maximize time under. I don't think you'll notice any big difference anywhere else in using it. kawasakign: Adding nitrox to...

Flying after pool session? Can't find any specific info...

That's what I was thinking it might do too. I'm not even sure my dive computer will tell you not to fly in the planning modes.

    SDA Nitrox card accepted??

There was no actual diving/pool work associated with my SSI Nitrox class since, well, actually diving with it is identical to diving with air (in the terms of, if you can breath off of a tank of air, you won't notice if someone has switched it to nitrox). It was all classwork to learn about...

Flying after pool session? Can't find any specific info...

Yea, it's way to shallow to have any kind of nitrogen build up IMO... I'm not an expert, but I'd say you'll be fine. You might try putting your dive computer (if you have one) into plan mode and see if it tells you not to fly just for grins.

Thoughts on gear for gettin AOW?

This is what I use and love it. My dive buddy has one of these also, as well as a Balance and, even though he prefers this one, he likes his Balance too. So if you're set on going with a BC from your LDS (or from seaquest), then I'd have to say look into the Balance. It's back inflate and...

    Dive Log for PC

Alot of computers that have built in logs (like Suunto Vypers/Cobras/D6's/D9's/etc.), have a computer cable and software for downloading your logs from your dive computer onto your PC, and viewing graphs and a bunch of other neat things about all your dives. Alot of people probably use this as...

    weight belt=sore back?

That story I read recently about the guy that got his head temporarily stuck in a sharks mouth... said that he was wearing a lead vest (which probably saved him) instead of a weight belt to avoid back problems from being under for hours at a time. I have two tank straps and put weight...

    Blind friend wants to dive...

ears can measure depth and if someone made a guage that beeped so many times for how much air he had left... a blind diver could probably give it a go. Plenty of people dive in zero vis. for one reason or another. Met one guy that did it to find ancient shark teeth or something... so I'm...

    Navigation?

A little bit of compass and a whole lot of natural navigation usually. Always take a heading before you jump in of the shore line, or where you know there is going to be a wall or reef or some type of landmark so if you get lost you'll at least be able to come up on that broad line (if at all...

    Mid-Mo Divers

It's not a place to travel across country to dive... but then again, neither is beaver or table rock. As far as local diving goes, it's great. And I wasn't flaming nagal, just a bit surprised that you'd be so quickly to put Oronogo so far down on the list of places to dive around here.

    Mid-Mo Divers

Oronogo has mixed reviews? Compared to everything else around here, it's an awesome little day trip dive site. Dirt cheap too.

    LDS pricing

Honestly, regulators and things you need to try on are the only things I recommend buying from LDS's. Regulators becuase they have to get checked/serviced and if you bought it from the LDS they shouldn't have any problems doing it (for a fee), and stuff that you need to try on for the obvious...

New to OW diving - Question

Being in shape helps, but isn't a requirement. If you arn't in shape when you go scuba diving, you'll breath the air in your tank down faster and will have to end the dive sooner, that's about it. In my OW class, all we had to do was swim to the end of the pool and back, then we jumped right...

Free air fills? How many shops offer this?

$5 a fill I think. Most shops try to break even on air-fills. There is no profit in them.... just gets people into your store on a regular basis around all your merchandise and flyers for trips.
