    logging pool dives....

Local PSD group requires that some pool dives be logged and signed off by team leader. These dives are training dives, that are required for insurance and currency requirements. Most are with blacked out mask. I guess these are a special case. I don't log pool dives myself...

Full Set Of Gear Lost To Davy Jones' Locker

What is the draft of cruse ships? I though it was about 35-40 feet (for some). If so this would be a VERY iffy place to dive...

    MINIMUM Depth to Log Dive

My rule is: I get wet, I breath compressed gas, its a dive. I count it. I count if for repetive dive purposes, and log it. Only use for a log for me, other that as a personal record, is for the medics if I get in trouble. I want them to have a complete record.

Men Posting in the Women's Views Forum--good or bad??

I didn't realize that this was a womens ONLY forum, but a womens VIEWS forum. A place to explore womens perspectives on diving (and other) issues. Sure the Salvo thread was a disaster, but not all threads get that bad. Look at several other threads in the womens views forum, the tubes tied...

What wrist do you strap your dive computer on?

Left, twisted a bit to the inside. I find that I can hold my inflator up and see the computer at the same time. Its right in my face in fact. That leave my right hand free to hold the anchor line, line to smb or what ever with my right hand. BTW I use a suunto computer and never have problems...

Just got 2 "New" Double-Hose Regs!!

I, long ago, dove with a double hose reg. They were a bit out of date then, but still in uses by some people. They were a bit different to dive, the hoses can/will fill with water if you drop the mouth piece under water. This requires a special proceedure to clear - before they will breath...

Not within the realms of sanity

When I frist heard of deep stops they were called Pyle stops... And the guy is increadbly generious. I sent him email (couple years ago) when I first read this article and he responded with a kind and informiative response. The real thing is that he shares his bad expereiences, and I hope we...

    Prescription mask

I have had a couple of masks fitted to my perscription and was well satisfied by this guy, a skin diver in Ukiah. Scuba vision is his business. http://www.zapcom.net/~scubavsn/zap_page/

    Where to buy hardware?

It is possible (though a bit hard) to find british made ones. These are much better. You can tell the difference by looking at the slider gizmo. Most of the chineese ones have a grove in the slide for the body to fit into and this is sensitive to molding problems. The british ones appear to...

Buying a dive computer off eBay

I bought a VYTEC of ebay, from some guy in Hong Kong -- brand new in box. Paid less than the LDS does... Everything went just fine..

    What GPS?

I am glad that this works for you, but the IPX2 waterproofness standard is not very high. It is not in anyway considered water proof, or splash proof, but rather as drip proof. IPX7 is for intermittent shallow submersion (normally 3 ft for 30 min) IPX8 for continuous submersion (at manufactures...

    Runaway buddy

UP has this exactly right, from my perspective. What is the chance of an inflator problem and what can be done about it vs. what are the potential problems with the fix (and any remaining chances of failure of the initial issue) and what can be done about them. And what conditions make the...

    Runaway buddy

I learned about this long after class. When I was certified, we had to inflate our horse collar BCs manually. I did learn this later...

    Runaway buddy

The story, as related to me by my advaced nitrox instructor (the instructor in the story), goes as follows: Instructor and student were diving from an inflatable in the monterey bay with deepish water (over 130 ft). Diver entered water with partially inflated BC, and began to decend on the...

    Runaway buddy

There are some reports of divers in monterey being unable to proberly seat there hoses with the hat on. Also note that there is a small cut out one one side, and it may need to be toward the coorugated bc hose in order to operate successfully. this may make it more diffcult to reconnect...
