    Small boats, big water

A good Idea, but requires attention to what's in the bilge. Uncles sailboat was rigged this way, and developed a leak along the shaft that was beyond the capacity of the electric pump (something broke and the shaft and prop departed the boat). There was about two feet of water on the sole...

    Small boats, big water

Often we find that safety and connivence are at odds, and lots of people believe "it won't happen to me". We see this in homes, wit security bars and doors that are difficult to unlock (maybe requiring a key) and fires. Most likely it won't, but if it does connivence seems less important.

    Your max depth!

I often dive 95 to 110 ft. max was 129, with no problems. Probably would go to 150 if I had a good reason.

Molasses water temp dropped below 70

hey you should come dive with us in Monterey, its warm here (well relatively...). The outside temp is about 53 (expect 60 by 2 pm) and the ocean buoys are saying that the ocean temp is a warm 54 -- about as warm as it gets.

    Prescription Scuba Mask

I have used Scuba Vision in Ukiah for my last three prescriptions. Guy is an optician and a free diver. Have had long talks with him about skin diving. My masks were all perfect. He has you mark the center of your pupils on the outside surface of the mask when you send it to him, and he...

CA dive options Feb 7 and 8

Diving in santa rosa... Well santa rosa is a bit inland, but there is shore diving on the pacific coast west of there. You will need a car, figure about an hour drive. The water will be low 50s or high 40s. Whether a site is divable will depend on the weather, but generally there are some...

Can you equalize WITHOUT pinching your nose?

I to am in the voluntary tubal opening group, at least almost always... On rare occasions i find need for sum extra oomph and pinch my nose. works in the water or above it equally well. Before I go diving i check it out a couple of times, and if i can voluntarily clear i may cancel the trip...

    Bottle question

No old sprite bottles (in the US) from the 1920s. It appears that Sprite was introduced in the US about 1961. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprite_(soft_drink)

Pony attached to main cylinder or No?

I have a pony and started using it with a pony tamer mount to my tank. The setup worked well, but I mostly dive from boats and change my tank several times during an outing. This did not work too well with the pony tamer. Not that I was difficult to remount it between dives, just that it was...

    New divers and BCs

I didn't dive for a bunch of years, then started again. Had mask, fins, gloves, booties, a reg. bought a wet suite and rented a bc. Almost stopped diving again. the BC (a jacket type) was too small, in size and capacity. Inflating it enough to float me was enough to restrict my breathing. I...

How often are you asked for C-card and/or dive log?

About 2/3s of my dives are with one of several related dive orgs (their boat, their DMs, their instructors, their planned dives). I know all of the captains and most of the DMs of this org. I always am asked for my card, and required to record my number on the waver on every dive with them. I...

    Do you carry a knife?

If you carry a BIG knife be careful about entanglement hazards. Big knives on the outside of legs are almost sure to entangle kelp, if you swim through. Inside of leg is better but still a hazard. The real problem is that entanglement at the leg requires that you return along you path to...

    Dry Bag Size

i use a large bag (the size of the yellow scubatoys one). I put my valuables, shore clothes, and a towel in (in that order) on the boat. works great even in an small open boat. Eventually i put my suit and some other wet gear in it for the drive home. Will hold a smallish exposure suit (not the...

    What happened here?

My feeling on this is: If i do something stupid (or even smart) and die doing it, and you pick it apart and someone else lives because of it GREAT. Otherwise my death will be in vane. For me at least feel free to dissect any dive in which i kill my self for any clues or lesions it may hold...
