    Solo Checkout Dives this Sunday...

by myself I've been in that quarry more than 100 times. It's getting to the point where I could navigate by the silt. I've just never been down there by myself. The instructor's take on the whole class is, "I'm not teaching you anything. I'm just there to make sure you're really good at...

    Solo Checkout Dives this Sunday...

Instructor will be chilling on a lawn chair up on one of the quarry beaches. Dive 1: Gotta be below 70 feet (instuctor will be checking computers), gotta come up to the surface some distance from the beach before him and inflate a saftey sausage. When he acknowledges that he sees you, you...

    Solo Checkout Dives this Sunday...

... and I'm getting pretty psyched. I'm perfectly comfortable with all the exercises as described and perfectly confident I can extricate myself from pretty much any problem in any environment where I would consider solo diving... ie: utterly benign places. I'm wondering, though... I've...

    Moving North SHOPS?

"The" Dive Shop in Fairfax. 15 minutes from Alexandria. Bank 32% and it, in my opinion, the best shop around in terms of both stock and staff.

    The V Weight Flip

Yep Dry 16 is right. Was wearing it all on the belt with an aluminum plate, but just got me a 12 lbs FredT that I'm so in love with I am damn near making out with it. Sans V-weight I'm wearing the extra 4 in Trim weights on the backplate waistbelt (one is substituting for a hose...

    The V Weight Flip

So in an effort to lose the weightbelt altogether with some AL80s I got me a V Weight. I figured, "Eh, so it gets me a little heavy" (about 4 lbs heavy) the loss of belt, I thought was worth it. Then I get in the water and I fight the trim the entire time. After a few minutes I decide to...

    Just how hooked am I?

The future Mrs. Saying doesn't trust fish. Therefore, the future Mrs. Saying barely tolerates snorkeling. (She likes to look at them... but no matter how many times I try to explain the lateral line she is quite sure they are either going to touch or, at the very worst, bite her.)

    Just how hooked am I?

I get married in two weeks. This weekend I go out for something of a bachelor party. I'm irritated that those are going to be two weekends I miss diving. Hook, line, and sinker.

    Friggin Aquaseal

So here I want to replace the remote exaughst elbow of my Dive Rite wings with a plain elbow. And I unscrew the little clamp to get the hose off to find that the thing is inexorably glued to the elbow by, what I assume to be, Aquaseal. Solution?

    Assembling Doubles

So when all is said and done the manifold twists freely (before the tightening bolts are... you know... tightend) in a range of about 20 or 30 degrees. The thing that's got me messed up is those 20 or 30 degrees are at the bottom -- that is, if I left the assembly as it is right now, and...

    buying Dive Rite at diveriteexpress.com

I just ordered the BP/W deal they're currently offering and the new Iso manifold I was asking about. When I opened the box I found that the crotch strap which is part of the deal wasn't in there, nor were the snorkel tubes on the manifold. I called them yesterday to tell them about the...

    New Dive Rite Iso Manifold

Just got the new 3300 manifold and, when assembled, there are far more than the Dive Rite recommended 1/8th of an inch of threads showing on either side (more like 1/2). The vendor figures that the specs have changed with the manifold redesign. Anybody heard confirmation or repudiation of...

Drysuit, freshwater, single AL80, BC = 20lbs Drysuit, freshwater, double AL80s, AL BP/W = ? Obviously I'm not looking for the simple answer of "how much weight do I need" I'm just wondering what would be a good starting off point? I'm especially curious about the positive buoyancy of...

    Portland Oceaneering BP

I'm in the market for a plate and I'm seriously considering the Portland Type II because of the groovy handle. However, I've read that since the slots are cut strangely that one can have some problems with threading the harness. Anyone have any experience with these plates and has it been...

    Open Water the MOVIE...

Thinking to get BC or reg.....

I would get a reg first because the rules on buying a reg are pretty simple "Best one you can comfortably afford" whereas you should try a bunch of different BCs and decide which kind (much less exactly which one) fits and that you really like before you get one.
