I never take my harness or wing off my back-plate for travel. I have the Sub Gravity adjustable harness and it has never caused any problems or been damaged. I fold the arms or legs of my wetsuit between the back-plate and wing. I pack it on top now because my dive bag has been checked by CBSA 2...
They are usually very good about responding to emails.
I just looked and there are 12 Sub Gravity dealers within 80 miles of Los Angeles, maybe reach out to them to see if they have any in stock.
If your in a rush, I can check to see if my guy has one?
Sorry for the delay.
Halcyon's stuff is way over priced and it's not that much better. You're just paying for the name.
It's not the back-plate, it's the style of the wing that determine if you need a STA or not. Sub Gravity wings do not require a STA. I would look at the whole Sub Gravity BP/W...
As mentioned above, just get a aluminum back-plate. I have a Sub Gravity 3mm aluminum back-plate, they come in standard or short length. 3mm Aluminum Backplate - SubGravity

Oh, also take a look at the Tecline BP/W. They are based in Europe but I don't know anything about them.
the 13L wing would be a good size. SINGLE TANK CONFIGURATION - Teclinediving
If you are comfortable doing so, you can order directly online from the Sub Gravity website. They were very helpful when I had a lot of questions before buying their BP/W system. Paragon Single Tank Package - SubGravity
You can also order a Dive Rite BP/W online from Dive Gear Express, they have...
