ya and if you arnt useing an oct make sure you dont breath off the snorkle i did that and i could tell my instructor was laughing as he was handing me his oct..
personaly it depends on were you go some place with boats include rental in their price.. others dont ive seen some really bad looking gear when i was diveing with the crusie linner made me feel glad i had all my own gear..

i never had a mask problem i just tried alot of them on till one fitted properly... what i did was face upwards put the mask on (with out the straps) and tried to keep it on my face with out sucking in if you can do it.. the mask shouldnt leak as many mask are made diffrently..
with wieght intergraded bcds.. i find that in cold water with a drysuit you need more weight then the bcd can hold... i turns out that most of them can only carry a maxium of 20 pounds in each poutch meaning if you dive dry and i need 45 pounds... it cant possably hold enoff weights..
id do it in shorts and a tshirt so your bvd doesnt rub agianst you and you dont get swore because of it...
but i dive 41 water and to me its not that cold but it is cold..

same thing happend to me in mexiaco but then there were fishing boats and tons of other boats zooming around as well try doing a safty stop with a glass bottom boat and tons of other boats zooming around.. lets just say i did it at 20 feet instead and surfaced with less air as planed as i had to...

the think about rust is you have to remove it or it will keep rusting.. if there is a little bit left it will continue too rust.. sand it by hand depends on the area affected how deep ect if there is rust on the out side what would the inside look like... is it a small area rusted through ect..
splits are like nothing is on your feet meaning you dont feel them when you were non split you get more power and you can feel them i like splits as i dont need the power but it still goes farly good.. and they are like swimming with your feet only..

i can see walking in the boat a good idea but at the shore wear open heel fins with boots and walk in deep enoff and slide them on.. its geting out with rocks allround you thats the hard part
why check the gear when you can just wear it on the plane theres no law against it... you might get alot of funny looks though.. i carried everyting but my bcd in my bag (and fins)
