Anyone been stung by a jellyfish?

got stung during a beach dive one day...........they were tiny lil critters, couldnt even see them unless you really looked. They just looked like debris at the quick glance. Didnt sting long, kinda like fiberglass does. tiny bubbles

Ran into a buddy of mine...

beer can sale fresh off the reef!!! found on the trailer park of the pacific!! Thats right, GUAM...........the only place in the world where theres more broken glass on the beach than there is shells.......... Just imagine the look on your friends (if you have any) faces as you walk up...

    Bent over a BC

I dont think IWR belongs in an OW course, Rescue at the earliest. Most SMART new divers have no use for the concept of IWR anyway, or at least they shouldnt. The very same, I possibly got the site wrong in my post. Let them learn trim, bouyancy, gas conservation, navigation, and the like...

    Bent over a BC

What would be silly would be going back down without enough gas. I have read many stories about someone dying because they "forgot" or "didnt account for" gas. I read a report on DAN about a kid that went back down so he could have the deepest depth on his gauge compared to his buddies. He...

Ran into a buddy of mine...

Thank you SeaJay!! Ive been trying for a long time to figure out how to tie both my passions (diving and beer drinkikng) together..........and now I know. If anyone asks me why Im drinking beer, Ill tell them that Im training my hand to the feel of a beer can underwater!!! EXCELLENT!! almost...

    Bent over a BC

I completely agree with the liability issues. Id say that most of the OW students have no clue what M-value, tension, and bubble equalibrium even are. But that doesnt mean that theyre not considerations in the process as a whole. I, personally, hope I never have to decide whether or not to...

    what would you have done?

First of all, " get to the line and down before the block is swept off the site" would have made me wonder why a drift wasnt a better idea. Ok, after a second thought.........the block bouy would have spirned the first bit of doubt. Can I have the DM's name? I NEVER wanna dive with...

    Bent over a BC

and while Im not the "expert" some truely are here on this board. I have to agree with IWR, especially in a rapid ascent situation. The way I understand it is this.....its about the differential pressures around the bubble skin, equalize the pressure...........and the bubble shrinks or reaches...

    A divers arrogance and ignorance

I, myself, would like to think that a party member couldnt get that far away before i noticed anyway. But the water is VERY clear there, clearer than Guam for sure. The idea of taking a single 80 to what, 8 ata's?.........thats nuts in my book. A bounce dive? Ok, but breathing rate, run...

Ran into a buddy of mine...

in Asan Cut (Asan, Guam)was: 1) some old fishing line, complete with sinkers and hooks (retrieved and properly disposed of) 2) some underwater survey equipment (left in place) 3) a heniken can (refer to #1) 4) a huge moray (refer to #2) 5) a few rather large grouper (in fryer...

    ears constantly popping

It sounds to me like you were clearing too hard, its something that alot of new divers do. I get that from the nose bleed and the red drums. Ive heard people say that, when they had that problem, their ears popped for a few days...........but 1 year? Id day that theres some sort of...

    Advanced vs open water??

Let me start by saying that NO cert is a license to be stupid (read: diving beyond YOUR limits) Now, we live on Guam, and there is alot of opportunity to dive here. I can be to any number of really nice beach dives in less than 30 mins. So I had quite a few dives logged before I ever went...

    high blood pressure

I have borderline HBP, taking Lisinopril. Of course, since I have HBP, I had to see a Doc before I could start to certify. It was really good in my case cause Im in the Submarine Navy and the Doc I saw was an Underwater Medical Officer (Diver Doc). He told me that there were no issues with...

    Scubapro Knighthawk

and its a great rec BC. With 46 lbs or so of lift, it can handle twin 80's. I agree that the weight pockets are a tad small for anything over about 10 lbs a side, but here in Guam I only need 6 lbs total. Its only got one pocket that is useful for anything other than a knive, and I wish...

Are split fins really that great?

i place the soles of my feet together to change position with the fin, instead of turnin the fin horizonal. It's not as easy as blades, but it can be done tiny bubbles

Are split fins really that great?

I disagree, I have alot of control, can turn easily, and use frog kicks, reverse kicks, and helo turns all the time with my gray twin jets...........the biggest problem I have is out swimming the others in our group when were in blue space. tiny bubbles

    Equipment for beginners

There are many ways to look at this question, and it really depends on the approach you plan to take in diving. First off, if there is a chance that the LDS has different makes and styles of BC's, try to dive all of them a couple of times first. The BC you think you like when you first...

    oh which bc to buy??

I dive the Scubapro knighthawk, my wife dives the Seaquest Diva. THe knighthawk is very stable and I like it alot, however, now that I have had it for some time, I feel it needs a couple more D rings, and could use weight pockets on the tank strap like Krista's Diva has........... tiny bubbles

    The Great T-SHIRT Thread !!

this first one is crude for shorts: an octo or alt air on the front of a pair of shorts.......caption says "i'll be your buddy".........on the back is the scuba logo a shirt might be a diver getting "pulled over" by the scuba police..........caption reads "i should have read more...
