Cabo diving in late January/early February - water temps, critters?

nwflyboy, are you flying Alaska Air from Seattle down to LAX then Loreto, or how are you getting to Cabo? I was about to make a new thread about whale watching trips out of Magdalena Bay area, and found this post. I'm probably just flying from Denver to Cabo since that's relatively cheap...

First Coz trip - need help planning

Wow, good to know! I never heard that, in fact quite the contrary, even from a dive guide with Rainbow Reef in the Keys, and someone in Cozumel (forgot which outfit, so will remain nameless). They both said you're totally fine to dive the day after you arrive, but maybe they meant like 99.9%...

Denver DS recommend. for Rescue Cert. Course

Thanks @jvogt , I'll read up on the DAN DEMP and consider it. I see Holly from A1 at the Aquarium every Sunday, I'm going to ask her advice too.

Why? Which specific guage is not useful to you? What?

    Any equipment buying regrets ?

Great point. I love that I can fold the Tusa into a compact flat panel in my Oceanic luggage top compartment. Will avoid rollers, and also check out the Mares cruise mesh. Thanks!

    Any equipment buying regrets ?

Interesting. I've had the opposite experience and have used it a ton. All zippers intact, nothing has torn or gone wrong. And I've been lugging it around on my back with 15+kgs. of dive gear, crammed full. Maybe we have different models.

    Questions about liveaboards and tipping

Agree with the others here. $200 to $300 for most 1week LoB trips. Maybe $400/$500 max for a high end luxury 2week LoB.

(WARNING: Graphic Violence) Dive Night Terrors - Bonaire Video at Salt Pier

Cool! By the end, after so many fails, you are rooting for him to finally catch one, lol!

Denver DS recommend. for Rescue Cert. Course

I'm looking to pursue my PADI Rescue Cert. next. My LDS's of choice are usually A-1 in Littleton and One World in Englewood. I haven't shopped around yet, but see it's only $200 at A-1, plus the $50 course book. Way cheaper than the prices I've seen in Florida and Coz. $375 at Rainbow Reef...

    Anyone dive the Denver Aquarium?

I've heard nothing but good things from people who've dove there. I've volunteered at the Den.Aq. for 7+ years and have been a diver for 15+yrs, but have never dove there. I do mostly food prep and feeding for the biggest tank, called "Shipwreck" @ 400k gallons! Guess I just don't wanna...

    Any equipment buying regrets ?

I've seen a few poor souls on dive trips with those medium size dive bags and they struggle so hard and hate them. I made sure my first bag (that wasn't a "snorkel trip only" bag for just fins/mask/snorkel), was HUGE. I bought the big Tusa black mesh backpack. My next one will have rollers...

Drift diving is NOT so relaxing!

My first time in Coz, first tank was on Santa Rosa Wall on a high current day. It was SO frustrating that it almost soured me on Coz, right from the start. But of course I went with the flow and group and did well to not waste air trying to stay exactly the same short distance from the bottom...

    Oceanic VTX Dive Computer

No offense at all, very legitimate questions. The divemaster also assisted me so I could have "two pairs of eyes" on the problem. We used a 3000# filled tank to test a 3rd time, and made sure air was flowing to the regs, and my Cressi console also showed full pressure. Alex in tech support...

Video Cozumel April 2018 with Tres Pelicanos (3P’s)

I have a Hero 4-Silver and Backscatter 3.1 (I think). The one with two lenses (one side, one top). I think I just used the 5-20ft. shallow lens for most footage. It's interesting to see just how different the vids turn out, even mid-dive, as it changes from sunny to overcast above, and of...

    Oceanic computers discontinued?

I'll be watching this closely as well. I've been dealing with Oceanic/Huish tech support (in another VTX thread), and have dealt with a bad Aeris A300 CS right out of the box a couple years ago. They recently sent me a refurb'd VTX ($250) that also has a problem, can't see the x-mitter...

Video Cozumel April 2018 with Tres Pelicanos (3P’s)

Great video, thanks for sharing! Funny thing, I think I got a lot of similar shots that you did, when I dove with Blue XT~Sea & TresPelicanos last week. The Turtles, the Nurse Shark sleeping in a cave, the Puffers and Boxfish/Cowfish clearing out gravel, the "hitchhiker" fish swimming above a...

    Whale Shark probability

I did a W.S. snorkel trip with "MexicoWhalesharks.com" from Isla Mujures last Sunday morning. It doesn't matter whether you come from Mujeres or Cancun, because the boats pretty much zip between the two ports picking up passengers. We had people from both sides on our boat. Worth the $130, I...

    Another quick trip report

I dove Columbia Deep last Friday morning. After the safety stop, I surfaced to notice a med. size Greenie right near me, within one or two feet of my head! By the time I fumbled with my GoPro trying to push play, it was already swimming away. I wonder if it was the same hungry guy, lol.

    Oceanic VTX Dive Computer

Well, they (Oceanic/Huish) totally EFFED me again. This supposed refurbed "tested perfect" VTX couldn't see the transmitter, still! So totally useless on my current Cozumel trip, nothing was fixed. Diving with no computer, just my console (Cressi Mini-2). Tried two new batteries in both DC...
