Looking for Scenic Shore Discover Dive

When you pick a site, you should have a lengthy talk with the dive operator and then your wife about the operation. I question if a shore dive is physically easier than a boat dive. Generally for shore dives, you gear up on land, and then walk into the water with the gear. It could be 10...

    The carry on

Mr. Subaru, Is it me, or is airline travel getting harder and harder? Concerning you original post, could you clarify a little? I'm slightly confused. Do you mean that 1) when you checked your luggage at the ticket counter, they saw your carry-on and try to force you to check it also, or 2)...

    Snorkeling with tween? Best places?

Where did you stay? Was the shore diving and snorkeling off the hotel, or did you drive around to different beaches for scuba/snorkeling excursions?

Learning how to dive in strong currents without diving in strong currents

Yea, this is false logic. In a surge, the forward and reverse forces are balanced (neglecting any additional current.) If you add force by kicking, it doesn't matter when. Any swimming you do will add motion relative to the water, regardless of which direction the 'surge' is going. It may...

I thought the reefs there were further than 10min offshore.

Gear and Tips for the Bearded Diver?

Dollar Shave Club | Look, Feel, & Smell your best ha ha ha just kidding Mask fit is generally based on face shape, not mustache. Use the commonly shared mask testing technique that every shop knows (suck it onto your face through nose, and compare the success of the seal). But, don't let...

    Navigation tips?

Hi all, One of the areas where I feel the most anxiety is navigation. I do OK once I get familiar with a site, but other than CocoView, I don't dive the same locations frequently enough to learn them all. I can't wait for personal INS! After a guided dive, I've often thought "I would never...

Diving while on a cruise ship

Yes, you are correct. I've been very diligent about booking off-ship. Twice in Cozumel, I booked an 'independent' DM/boat. It was a small boat, but we were the only customers. In Grand Cayman, I search for 6-pack boats... cheers

Diving while on a cruise ship

My experience diving through official cruise ship 'excursion': meet in random cruise ship lounge wait for missing passengers who overslept wait while forgetful diver runs back to room for mask/snorkel/sunscreen wait for tender (or maybe dive op boat) boat(and maybe bus) from ship to dive shop...

    First BP/W for me.

What's with the Deep6 'coated' harness? Is it more comfortable or durable, or more stiff? Is it harder to cut/melt the ends? I plan to do some customization, but am worried I may not like the 'coating'.

    First BP/W for me.

yea, I already use Deep6 Eddy fins. I never thought to check them for BP/W. It is a great deal. Will buy it once I see it in stock. For $175, what's the worst that can happen?

    First BP/W for me.

What's the backside look like? How many loops? Some have one large loop, and others have 2 small loops (for keeper between them).

    First BP/W for me.

Thanks. Now I understand your meaning. And I agree that would be best, especially for making it easier to don/doff underwater. However, I'm shaped like a pear, and HATE weight belts. I know once I'm horizontal it doesn't matter. Getting into the water is awkward and embarrassing. Adding a...

    First BP/W for me.

@MichaelMc Sorry, but I'm not quite following you. Could you please clarify? Do you mean to wear a weight belt instead of the 2 lower trim pockets on the BP? Or maybe you mean to use webbing to attach the 2 lower trim pockets onto the BP. Thanks!

    First BP/W for me.

OK, the way I've built it... $600 with 18lbs wing; $435 with 25lbs wing DGX, plus extras to make it similar... $380 (but pure hog harness, without QR for my shoulder) So.. 18lbs vs 25lbs... that's the rub...

    First BP/W for me.

Wow.. that was fast. I'm not convinced about the crotch strap. I don't mind the idea, so I'll probably give it a try. I've just never felt insecure with just the shoulder/waist. Never had the BC ride up while diving or on the surface. Maybe that happens more often with a separate weight...

    First BP/W for me.

Hi all, I'm going to BP/W! No hurry. I'm taking my time to get things organized. But, here's my plan so far. Critique please, but be nice. Objectives Warm water only travel only (minimum weight) clutter free and neat right-size the wing (no bigger than necessary) single AL80 only, never...
