Blue Heron Bridge is excellent for both snorkeling and diving. It is tide dependent, so google it for the best times. In the Florida keys, most of the snorkeling and diving is offshore. You might be able to finds a boat that allows both on the same trip, maybe at Pennekamp State Park.

Yes, standard straps for a BPW are 2", same size as my prototype. I'm also going to make some 1.5" models, which is the size of the straps on my current BCD.

Today I ordered a 12" x 12" x 3/32" sheet of black Delrin. I hope it is thick enough. I used 1/8" thick acrylic for the prototype and it seemed fine. Delrin is less brittle than the acrylic. I also ordered 100 feet of 1/16" bungee, which is way too much, but the same price as 25ft ?!?! I...

I carefully use my fingers to smooth the melted ends as they cool. Sure, sometimes I get a little burn, but rarely. Just takes some practice to know when it is too hot or too cold. How about using an old iron. melt the edges with a flame. Let it cool. Iron it on 'hot'.

I find the dive log most useful to predict what exposure protection I will need. My notes include what I wore, the water temp, and if I was comfortable.

Oh, I meant the wing, not the backplate. I guess the four big holes made by the thin webbing cross are 'slots'. The word 'slots' was misleading me.
