Since the post police is asking, I'll tell you. I see no reason why a bp/w won't fit those needs however, having used a bp from the start and now trying out a sm rig, it's no longer this way is the best or only way.
Doubles doesn't mean twins backmount, nor does diving dry require a bp/w...
Don't let these old farts lead you to the gross side, if they can't win u on sac or buoyancy skills or anything of value they'll beat you out on gross lol!
Yup don't drink coke underwater cus if you fart you'll be like a scooter lol!
That's like saying the only good thing about a jeep is the 4x4 dive lol. Diff lock, high/low range, free wheeling hubs etc are all academic.
Case in point of the whole being greater then the sum of it parts. The bungee octo is part of a dive system not an independent component.
Excluding...
The main problem is there is a huge range of divers out there from the weekend warriors to the really serious ones. The really dangerous ones are the weekend warriors... The ones who wanna go as fast as deep and do as many things as possible in the shortest possible time. Those are the ones...
The thing is you need to keep it in mint or very very good condition a used reg in so so condition isn't going to be worth much unless someone significant owned it or is super rare. Which brings back the question, of why pay more for something in the hope that it's actually going to be worth...
There are many factors but a lot of times, newbie divers don't know what they are doing wrong. Like finning up while trying to release gas n go down. Hyperventilating and inability to stay calm.
However, no matter what you can't beat the laws of physics. If you are underweighted there is no...
Things I thought I'll never hear in public.
Obese diver... I need more weight!
My nose is too big!
Lady diver... please help me take it off.
Mine is bigger and brighter then yours, wanna see?
Your sausage isn't big enough.
I love to pee in my suit.
More to come when I remember lol!
If you are going to stick you head into a wreck make sure you've got a helmet too lol!
Serious, looking around a wreck is fine, going into one is a no no till you have learn/trained in how to dive in overhead environments and can make your way out of a zero viz environment with just feeling...
When I did my nitrox and later advance nitrox there was a huge difference. 40% vs 80%, singles vs doubles, mandatory decompress vs none.
I don't see how one can compress both courses into one, the risks of 80% O2 toxicity is too high for newer divers.
I would agree with most of what the guys and CAPTAIN SINBAD has said but there are a few things I would add.
1. Fins, mask, wetsuit and snorkel are the first to get on the items list
I love my jets but they can be a pain for traveling, for a mask you can go cheap or expensive but these are the...
Thank goodness you're ok...
You know what after this experience you really, really need a good vacation... for some snorkeling and diving lol!
I'm positive you'll be able to find a great place and group of divers around the great barrier reef.
Failing that, come over to Thailand, Bali or...
Hi Jim,
As much as I and a lot of the guys love a bp/w however, you need to ask yourself a few questions.
1. Local or travel bcd
2. Single or double tank diving
3. Cold or warm water diving
4. Recreational, tech or side mount diving?
Basically, for local warm or cold water diving, you are...
As the guys have said, clipping to your crouch D ring might get in the way of other stuff in the future. If you are using the standard hose setup then it might be too long, you might want to consider a 24" high pressure hose setup which you could attach a bolt snap with some cord and then...
I use a 5' hose when doing rec diving but properly trained, anyone can use a 7' hose. It really doesn't add much drag.
Although, I use the double knot adjustable bungee necklace and haven't had an issue with it for years, there are many other alternatives.
As for the bungee there are many...
Like the guys have said, the octo is for you and your primary for you ooa buddy.
Check out how it's done:
UTD Essentials of Recreational Diving DVD Skills Preview - S-Drill - YouTube
You also don't need to zip tie the bungee onto the reg. You could make a bungee necklace like this:
Which...
The best way to get a feel of the job is to get involved, meaning get your certs to that of a dm. When you work as a dm you'll understand what it means to become an instructor and if you still love doing... by all means go ahead.
Never never give up, I have personally seen dive instructors who are about as dumb and bag of nuts and I just can't figure out how they passed grade school... Zero patience, zero communication skills etc, then there are those who seen to use the students as a way to vent their frustrations...
