I was there in November/December and visibility was ~30-35 ft.. The water was warm, but a 3mm wetsuit w/hood is nice anyway. We hit some tiny jellyfish one day and those of us with wetsuits were much happier than those without.
The hiking and exploring on land is great too. An entomologist...
I had a nice experience there with these guys a couple of years ago:
Almaco Diving
They're very nice people, responsive, and at least the wife of the husband-and-wife team is a native English-speaker so making arrangements in advance was easy.
Thank you. Good tip, and I see one model on the list that looks like the size I'm looking for. Have you used the snaps from this supplier? Even stainless steel bolt snaps from non-dive suppliers don't always hold up in the ocean, usually due to a non-SS spring.
I dive in cold water and use mostly medium ( ~3.75") bolt snaps. For a given size of snap the diameter of the swivel eye varies (not the end with the snap itself). I have a few old ones with smaller eyes but I can't find them any more. I've tried ordering a few here and there and seem to only...
There are navigation rules in US and other waters stating that vessels engaged in diving operations shall display all-round lights red-over-white-over-red at night, and ball-over-diamond-over-ball during daylight (Rule 27d). Smaller boats still have the requirement of the lights at night and...
I go back and forth between Faber HP100's and HP120's for single tank diving (3442#). The HP100 is a nice tank and is my favorite. At first I didn't think I would like the HP120 due to the extra height, but after getting used to it I also like it (once I'm in the water that is -- on the boat...
I'm thinking of going to the Sonoma Coast this weekend, either Stillwater Cove or Gerstle Cove. Does anyone have recent information on conditions? The sea state forecast looks pretty good on Secrets Surf Report, Surf Forecast and Live Surf Webcams
Thanks.
Monastery Beach got mentioned a few times in posts above, and it's a good example of a difficult surf entry. In my training course we practiced entries and exits there over and over again -- and it does get easier. A surf mat is a big help in conditions like that, especially getting out when...
October 7 conditions:
Pt. Lobos Bluefish cove, west end: ~40 ft. vis, temp in high-50's
Pt. Lobos Bluefish Wall: ~20-30 ft. vis, temp in high-50's
Granite Point Wall: ~30-40 ft. vis though less at south end, temp in high-50's
Sea state was very calm. Overall very nice conditions.
I've seen a few reviews but would be interested about how users like the Subgear XP-3G so far. I've been using Uwatec Aladin 2G and this seems similar with some new functions. Thanks.
Thanks for the helpful tips. I think I've found what I need.

Thanks. I'll check the IP's on all my Atomic's to see how close they are to one another.
I also have an old Poseidon regulator that I don't use much any more, and was aware that the IP is higher on that one, and wouldn't have put a non-Poseidon second stage on that first stage.
I am currently using ST1, Z2 and Z3 regulators. All were purchased within the last 3 years. I plan to add an M1 at some point. Are there any combinations of first and second stages in this group that you recommend against?
There seem to be a lot of nice options in Europe, especially UK, for weights that can be attached to a backplate in various ways. From US vendors, I haven't found much besides shot pockets that would fit between doubles. Does anyone know of a supplier in the US for this type of product? I've...
