    Diving Doubles

Thats smart. The kind of questions you were asking were sounding like you were planning on doing it without training. Doubles ARE expensive. Who would have thought something as simple as bands could cost as much as they do. My manifold has been sitting unused since i got it while i'm...

    Diving Doubles

Saying explicitly what others have hinted at....DO NOT ATTEMPT DECO DIVING IN ANY FORM UNTIL YOU HAVE THE TRAINING FOR IT Diving deep for no other reason than diving deep is probably not a good idea. Deco diving (other than the every dive is a deco dive) without training and equipment is...

Laws on freshwater diving in MASS

Please let us know what you find out. From what little I know, and it is little, this state seems to be rather anti-diver (if not in law then by rule) Thanks Scuba Six

Laws on freshwater diving in MASS

I guess the question that begs to be asked is "what can they do to you?" There are rules about bringing outside food into some theatres. I've never heard of someone being arrested for it. If someone fines you, do you have a chance to contest it, based on the state laws?

Laws on freshwater diving in MASS

Nasty dirty? Nasty cold? or nasty "i can't see my guages"? I think I can look out the windows of my office and see part of it. Dark and cold don't bother me so much. Water that's going to eat through my reg hoses does, however. BTW, I've been in your shop a few times....you've got a...

Laws on freshwater diving in MASS

Laws on freshwater diving in MASS

Anyone know what the laws are regarding diving in lakes around here are? Resevoirs are out (i think), but what about some of the "lakes" (Lake Cochituate, etc)? Thanks Scuba Six

    Vomiting with drysuit

Heat could definantly play a role here. I got stuck in the sand (the one spot on a 4th of july weekend that didn't have a car in it.....NOW i know why), waited an hour and a half for a tow truck in the sun and hot weather, suited up in my 7mm farmer john and rig, got about 3 feet away from the...

    0-ring

That depends on what you mean by failure. If you mean massive blowout, there goes your gas towards the surface, oh s**t where's my pony bottle? then I'm not sure thats possible. I did, however, suck through 2750psi (with an 80 cf bottle) at 25 ft in about 30 mins. I was kicking myself for...

    Drysuit "under"boots. Help please

I have potentially found a good deal on a drysuit that will fit well everywhere but the feet. My waterski feet (dry land size 13s) may not fit into the suit's size 12 boots (not the outer "rockboots" but the ones that are attached to the suit) Is there a way to replace the boots on the suit...

Vytec, VT Pro, and 02 Percentages

Your PPO2 is user defined? Or are they sticking you with the 1.4 working 1.6 deco thing? BTW, I agree with you on the slinging stage/deco being an advanced topic, just trying to answer the question as fully as possible. A computer can't make sure you pull off a gas switch properly. I'm...

Vytec, VT Pro, and 02 Percentages

We're getting outside the express question asked, but.... As the owner of a Suunto companion (think a dive computer that becomes a depth guage in an emergency deco situation really quickly) there are some differences in the ways various computers handle deco. (I have a nitrox resource that...

Vytec, VT Pro, and 02 Percentages

Also, unless Vytec supports gas switching (not sure if it does) you'll be decoing on tables anyway. Look into that. As for trimix being the only time you deco, thats not the case. YOU DO DECO while diving trimix, but you can deco while diving air or nitrox too

    Ommiting Nitrogen on Deco

Couple o things....RELAX.....the reason, i think, nova is suggesting like he is is because noone wants you to get hurt. He's just making sure you understand not to try this stuff (i had my *** handed to me for mentioning a cave dive i did once....noncert....) 2. I tried vplanner too. That...

    Ommiting Nitrogen on Deco

I for one am not trying to argue. I just don't quite understand. Did you try running V-Plan with o2 for both the N2 based deco and the one on Heliox? That would be a "fairer" representation of the two than one using nitrox with no o2 and one using heliox with o2. IMHO

    Ommiting Nitrogen on Deco

I had a tequila bend one time....is that close ;)

    Ommiting Nitrogen on Deco

Lets look at it like this. Diving on air (or a nitrogen based blend), you have an NDL of 60min (for example). You dive a bottom time of 60 mins and return to the surface. Assuming all else is as it should be (ie conforms to the deco models) if you keep your rate of ascent below 30 ft/min...

    Ommiting Nitrogen on Deco

About helium, to my limited understanding. Nova's statement "Helium needs to be offgassed at a deeper depth because it come out of solution faster, and can bend you at shallow stops , that's all. It's faster in and faster out." is very important. The purpose of deco stops is to simulate a...

    Tickle Sticks

To answer your question, since everyone else is busy high fiving each other ;) Ticklers, or tickle sticks, are used to draw the lobster out of its hiding place (this was mentioned earlier). Generally considered safer than sticking your hand in

    Serious Question about OOA training

Some instructors turn your air off unannounced....kinda the same deal OT- You practiced a spin? What were you flying ( i've done more of them than i care to count in a t-34). The one that gets you is when they do (i can't remember the name at this moment) the stall while turning onto final...
