    Divemaster AND specialty courses? Clarification

Psycho, If your wife can afford to spend a couple weeks in the Keys, her best bet is to attend an IDC there. I just finished my IDC and IE with Florida Keys Dive Center. They were great. It's kinda like "Scuba Boot Camp" but when you're done you feel confident and ready to teach. What's...

    Missing Dive Charter?

Does anyone know if Coral Island Charters is still in business, or what name they go by now? I dove with them about 4-5 times between 2000 and 2005, and really loved their service. My aunt lives in West Palm, and I was heading down for a visit and figured I'd go on a couple dives. I really...

    reg help?

I am an Oceanic dealer, but as you see, I never attempted to sell him a regulator. I simply put it out there that ever since Scubapro's designers broke off to form Atomic, their regs have 0 advantages over comparable LOWER priced competitors. :rofl3...

    reg help?

Atomics are some of the best regs out there. Unfortunately, you pay out the nose for them. AquaLung and ScubaPro charge for their name as well. If you want great regs for half the price look at the Oceanic Delta 4/ EOS regs. These are IMHO the best regs for the money. I practicly threw out...

What brand of wetsuit is the best value?

I am one of those in between shaped guys. I have been diving a BARE Velocity 5/4 (size XLS- S=Short) for about two seasons now. It is still the most comfortable suit I have ever owned. I am an instructor, so mobility is paramount to me. I rarely even wear a drysuit anymore. The only thing...

    My Datamask review

Rhone, The price actually goes UP after the 31st. They have been on sale since September (I believe) but that sale ends this month. You can pick up a new one for $1195 now, but it jumps to $1495 in 2009. I am planning on trading mine up to the NEW OC1 (Hoseless wrist w/ built in compass)...

How big is too big for a dry suit?

I highly reccomend the BARE Nex Gen as an entry level suit. They have short sizes in both the suits and the undergarments for a near custom fit. I got my first one when I was 15, which if you've had any experience with teenagers, we don't take great care of things. Mine lasted about 5 years...

Diving in SW Florida in Dec?

I'd definitely suggest running across to Ft Lauderdale and doing some shore diving there. If you take "Alligator Alley" you'll get in a nice scenic drive while you're at it.

Mask - Low Volume black skirt prescription lens

The Mares LiquidSkin is IMHO the most comfortable mask on the market. I like the Star LiquidSkin (ultra low volume "free diving" mask) but you'd have to get custom lenses for that one. The X-Vision LiquidSkin comes in a Black/Silver skirt and is about $150-$170 with lenses installed. The...

    Alternative to Jet Fins

The Hollis have a similar design, but I couldn't tell you what size to look at. One perk they offer though is they come with springs pre attached and they have two size adjustments built in to the fin incase the stock springs setting is too large. I might suggest a size XXL Hollis and play...

Recommendations for a Cold/Temperate Water Reg?

If you're looking for an all metal reg, the MARES proton metal is a great option. Everything except for o-rings and a few bushings are metal. The only down side is that none of the Mares line is adjustable. With proper service that is not a problem, but it does turn a few of my customers...

    Thinking of replacing my regs

I concur with the suggestion of having the reg serviced. Be sure to tell the tech about your councerns. If you are set on replacing the Delta, I highly reccommend keeping the FDX-10 1st Stage. maybe consider just replacing the octo with something that better suits your needs.

    Alternatives to Hyperstretch

I dive a BARE 5mm Velocity. I don't know how it compares to the hyperstretch, but I love it! It is very easy to get on and I can wear it all day even in 90+ degree heat. It has held up for more than a year. I use it almost exclusively as an instructor, doing 50+ dives a year. It doesn't...

    Fittings on Oceanic regs?

If you chose to lose the swivel, you need the GT3 fittings to adapt. though as mentioned you'll want to have a tech do it if you're gonna keep it in warranty.

    Best Breathing Reg

In my experience, The EOS breathes better than the mk25. I would reccomend either that or the slightly cheaper Delta 4. Both use Oceanic's FDX-10 overbalanced first stage and have an integrated second stage swivel to reduce hose pull. You can't go wrong with either choice. Both are...

    Sunken City in West Virginia

I have heard about a dive site in WV where an entire town was flooded when a dam was built. Does anyone know the name of the town? Is there any special procedures to dive there? (is it on some kind of park land, do we need to get special permission) Is there anywhere close by to get air...

    dive gear for kids?

Oceanic Just re introduced their "Explorer" BC. They come in 2 sizes, (3XS-ages 8-12 & 2XS-ages 10-14). They are weight integrated as well for convenience. Any regulator will do though as said earlier, you will want to get smaller mouthpeices to reduce jaw fatigue.

    Equipment For new divers

That is the exact same package my dad dives with. I personally went with the hoseless AI. That is something you may want to consider. As the others have said, weigh your options but based on our economy, price hikes are just around the corner. Make sure if you buy online that you can...
