Another fatal record attempt in Lake Garda, Italy

He left the beach at 8am to commence the dive and started to return shortly after for unknown reason. I'm told he didn't get below 10m. Apparently no obvious equipment faults.

    Seacraft ENC3 Inertial navigation unit?

It's a basic INS system, same as a plane. Starts with a know position (GPS) then uses the other sensors to calculate direction, depth etc. This is a screen shot from nav download from a training dive last week.

Advice for dive ops in Galapagos?

A big thanks to Shearwater for their customer service. You always hear comments about customer service and Shearwater's was always good, but you hope you never need to use it. I flooded my Perdix in the Galapagos. I emailed Shearwater and within 2 hours a RMA had been arranged. They even...

    Diving Roman ruins in Italy

Yep, concrete is good in compression, not in tension..... I'm still amazed that the replacement was designed and built so quickly. We drove over it a few weeks ago.

    Things you've found under water

I popped down at the end of the dive and attached a mooring rope to it and let the others drag it to the surface. Had a nice view from the water.:)

    Things you've found under water

We popped up on the boat to some islands in the lake, rarely dived and recovered this in 2 dives. There were more anchors that we didn't recover. The shore is very rocky and I'm sure that there are many more hooked in the rocks. Surprisingly the big anchor was away from the rocks. The big...

Car key storage during shore dive?

Personally I use a faraday bag for the electronic key then hide that in the car. The bag stops the car from 'seeing' the key and allows you to mechanically lock the car and stops it being being driven. Then a dumb key on a string round my neck.
