I know, the white tip was a fantastic treat... we were there yesterday as well... saw a turtle and then a couple of mantas just after lunch.. very cool. I know what you mean about Shark Reef.. dived there today and didn't see them... saw lots of fusiliers tho, and some big meaty tuna (bigger...

    Crowley's Blog

Cool... my Monday morning was not dissimilar, except we had check dives to do as well. Once again I learned that I am right to trust my instincts when we had a couple with quite a lot of dives, and regular guests with us, but hadn't dived in over a year. This would usually call for a full...

Haha! I heard about the ghost pipe fish too :D Well you will be glad to hear that the puffer fish are now shoaling... soooo cute! We saw a bundle of them on Shark and Yolande the other day, so that was very cool. We also saw the biggest tuna I have ever seen on Jack Fish Alley too... the size...

Haha! How funny... the timing just seemed so right. I am with you on the current checks too... it really doesn't take long, but makes such a big difference to the dive itself. Shark and Yolande was still pretty amazing yesterday though despite my having to meander in between sheltered spots out...

    Crowley's Blog

Haha! Don't I know it... wise words there Crowley... You know.. nine times out of ten I check the current on the wreck here and I too have smugly drifted by divers swimming in the opposite direction... today we were running late...so had to just jump... hence I saw you gliding past us on...

    Red Sea Wildlife Report

Hey Crowley.. good to meet you this morning on the jetty and put a face to the name... :D One of our guides Eloise saw two hammerheads on the back of Jackson a couple of days ago! Woo Hoo... along with a massive eagle ray and two sail fish!! Not bad eh... last time she tried jumping the back of...

What type of fins do you use and why?

Wow! That is something I have yet to see... I have seen an old pair of trainers being used instead of boots. And I have seen someone try (and fail) to wear nothing at all with adjustable fins. As for me, when wearing my drysuit, instead of wearing proper rock boots, I use slip on normal dive...

Fishing in Ras Mohammed National Park??? :(

I just got back to hear the great news... the decree has been reversed and the fishermen are no longer in Ras Mohammed... now we just need to ensure that the rules are actually upheld.. as we all know illegal fishing has been increasing over the years. A huge thank you to everyone who signed...

Fishing in Ras Mohammed National Park??? :(

Please share and sign this petition to overturn the recent decision taken by the governor of Sinai to allow fishing in the Ras Mohammed National Park. We are astounded by his actions, the whole area is an official Marine Protected Area, covered by laws set in place since 1983. This time of...

    Buoyancy trick?

I am with AfterDark on that one... how can holding your hose horizontally create neutral buoyancy? If you are ascending, you are likely to find that you are then unable to deflate enough in that position to remain neutral, and if you are descending and not adding small spurts of air to your...

    Red Sea Wildlife Report

Ahhh fantastic Crowley! Of course the dive I didn't do yesterday (the Alternatives) gave the group a white tip reef shark (yes.. I know, we normally get leopard sharks there!)... we did Shark n Yolande in the afternoon and like Jackfish, the shoals are beginning to gather. The snapper wall is...

    Konichiwa From Okinawa, Japan!!

Kon banwa from Egypt... I lived in Japan for about a year on and off during the eighties.. had a great time! Enjoy. Sadly I was not a diver at the time, so never got to experience any Japanese diving delights :(

    Red Sea Wildlife Report

We didn't see anything big on the dives themselves yesterday but had two pods of dolphins on the way back.. first about seven grampus chilling out on the surface.. then about ten or more bottle nose dolphins riding the wave at our bow.. fantastic end to a lovely day :)

    Red Sea Wildlife Report

Hmmm glorious.. we have been getting regular sightings of the big green turtles at Naama Bay too... fantastic. I have yet to see the mantas although a few of our guides have... no whale sharks for us yet either, but like you, we have seen plenty of dolphins... loads in fact. Fantastic stuff...

    Mr Diver in Sharm?

The Divemaster is such an important course, it is the foundation for your future career, so you want to make sure it is done well. Personally, I would recommend one of the larger centres, who will all give you an excellent divemaster course as they all work within very similar safety and...

    pink!

Have faith in the fact that already there is plenty of pink stuff around, so in three years there should be even more... and the fact that your little girl may just change her favourite colour. I have raspberry pink fins (having started with proper fluorescent pink full foot fins) they are...

Diving in Egypt, recommendations for areas please

Hi there... the hotels that are based at the more Northern end of Naama Bay in Sharm El Sheikh have a lovely house reef for a spot of shore diving, as well as access to all the regular sites via dive boats. These hotels include the Hilton Fayrouz (and Hilton Dreams across the road), the Novotel...

Suspension of all diving and watersports activities in Sharm el Sheikh

I agree with Christian... there is no official, or organised shark feeding here in Sharm, so I can't imagine that this could be behaviour learned by the shark. This would have to have been a regular occurrence for it to have learned about the location of food. Maybe it did swim up from South...
