    Deco Project

Deco Project (complete) Well, the deco project that I mentioned in my other thread is almost complete and available here! I have completed the technical and background sections and included an extremely simple air deco program in C++ (source available if you want it). I am still missing a...

    stroke mix

of course, there is preference (which Full-DIR does not leave much room for, but, alas i digress). response to the reasons: 1. If you are tech diving you should not have bouancy problems. If you do have problems, you are decoing on the anchor line or with an smb. 2. not a reason...

    Metric bottom timer?

there is a simple solution to everyone's problem (well not chris's, except i think oms has one). It's easy, being a child of "metrification." Just think of them separatly. I know 40C is hot and 90F is hot (yeah they're not the same thing). I know i can't drink a liter nor a gallon, but I know...

    stroke mix

I am not quite clear on this: Why is 80% referred to as stroke mix? I can see the benefits of the wkpp's standardized gases and understand that it is not quite the best mix for 30ft. However, if one does not do deep dives requiring long decompressions (ie nitrox and your deco begins at 30...

    Food Chain Question

If you're afraid, dive in freshwater. I have yet to be attacked by by a bass, but those crappies, better watch out. :D They can take off toes. brandon

When is it time to hang up the fins?

when your buddy has to carry you to the boat, set up your gear and throw you over the side. It'll probably stop then, but only cuz no one will put them on for you. oh yeah, when you've visited every shop in the tristate area and they all have your picture on the wall "do not accept checks from...

    Breathing Argon or Argox?????

I was hanging around the dive shop, or taking a class, or something and talking to the local TDI instructor. Somehow we got on the topic of argon. i don't know about benefits but he said that if you breath argon you have to invert yourself every few minutes or your lungs will fill up with...

    deco & calculus

Of course there is Drew! The only problem is after perusing Rick's link I've realized -> no matter how much I have already learned there is always twice as much I have yet to know. The only positive is no one is going to ask me to do all this stuff. donacheson, the fundamental theorem of...

    deco & calculus

I am doing a project involving deco for my calculus class (more or less explaining it and giving her some C++ source). I have Baker's papers and some other resources but nothing other than the dP/dt for loading in the calculus (which either I or my teach could've figured out on our own). What...

    Age Question

Actually brizzolatti, a quick check on the PADI website says that the average diver is 36. You have plenty of time. Good luck.

    40-foot Club

PADI Specialty course--Ontario that's quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever heard. I can see it now... Oh yeah to all of you suggesting 20m--isn't that a bit deep? I mean that's 66 feet. Just my opinion, I rather take it shallower. Although being narced might be fun.

    Computers in Air Pockets

Of the air pockets I have encoutered in my extremely limited overhead experience, they have been inches deep of exhaust. But I was wondering if I brought my computer into a cave or a real wreck and ventured into an air pocket would it still take into account my nitrogen loading or would it...

    Air fill cost/price

I met a guy who had about eight tanks plastered with stickers: "Free air fills for life" from some store in new jersey. Of course, he is here and that shop went out of business...but that would be pretty nice.

    Brag/Divemaster

what i am probably going to end up doing is buying an octo retainer and bringing a short hose (or find out who my instructor is and ask him). But I was just worried about PADI fascism and figured it might confuse OW students if I offered them my primary as opposed to the octo. Yooper, I guess...

    Brag/Divemaster

Put yourself in my position: you love to dive and you are going to graduate from high school in 4 months. Are you feeling the joy yet? Okay, the other day my parents offered me a chance to do quite possibly the coolest thing I could ever imagine--spend three weeks this summer in the British...

    What stops you from diving?

    1. Money 2. Cold 3. Tsunami/Hurricane/Tornado/Volcanic Eruption usually # 1 but occasionally # 3. It was 70 degrees today, I had enough money for an air fill and gas in my car. I don't know what it is about the winter that makes people want to stop diving

    Plain bags for dive gear

I use a plastic box, kinda like a big tupperware. Its durable, cheap, and holds everything. Of course, when traveling I have some sort of mesh-type locking thing so baggage handlers don't try to supplement their salaries.
