Are there any diving specific accident publications with stats, case-studies, and best practices?

    1) The odds of surviving a medical event at Starbucks are much higher than 30m below the surface, at which there's only a boat with little to no medical staff/equipment, 5 miles out at sea. 2) Diving puts stress on the body in a way the body is not supposed to work, it seems quite likely to me...

SM regs: XTX50 vs Dive Rite vs ??

When I buy something new, I don't expect to need to run to another shop so they can adjust it. So no, I received my toys, took them for a dive, and they clearly were outmatched by the Apeks reg I have (which also was factory tuned). Whether DR/DGX should have done in, or should have told me to...

SM regs: XTX50 vs Dive Rite vs ??

I can compare DR to XTX100, which should be the same as XTX50. Both new from the shop (ts-heinemann for apeks, DGX for my DR set), the DR set breathed noticeably harder, on the surface and underwater. On the other hand, it's still very much acceptable, even at 180' (55m) on air. It gave too much...

    XDeep Bladder

You can get the rec wing with a standard harness. The harness is not one piece anyway, but I guess you didn't like the adjustable quick releases. A classic is decent, but the bungees can get annoying...

Are there any diving specific accident publications with stats, case-studies, and best practices?

There we are, thanks for confirming that indeed DL is pretty much part of OSEL. So what we have is simple. A rebreather manufacturer (OSEL) makes a "sister company" (DL) that publishes a list and analysis of rebreather accidents. Unsurprisingly, this list will almost always point out "rebreather...

Are there any diving specific accident publications with stats, case-studies, and best practices?

Okay, this is gonna be swift... Deeplife claims: "“Apocalypse Type IV Rebreather”, “BlindEye”, “Deep Life”, “DLL”, “Firebird Crypto-Analysis”, “Incursion Rebreather” and “Open Revolution”, are trademarks of Deep Life Design Team or Deep Life Ltd (IBC)." Interesting, "Apocalypse type IV...

Are there any diving specific accident publications with stats, case-studies, and best practices?

Okay, what does it say on the case of wes skiles? "Rebreather is ****", what has been found on studies, "he had no training". The rebreather was deemed safe in court. Interestingly, Brad Horn, responsible for this list, lost the case in court. He never updated the list to reflect that, while he...

This thing certainly doesn't analyze accidents, and couldn't be further away from advice people should follow.

    Semi missed safety stop

Never heard of, nor seen it. IMO it serves no purpose over "level" "3" (or 5,or 10, or whatever). It can also be confused with "turn pressure" (or "100"). If someone gave me that sign, I'd probably look at him and scratch my head. Not that there's much of a chance anyone would, but well...

    Semi missed safety stop

I'm unaware of a "the sign for safety stop", where does that come from? Sounds like local practice to me. Missing a safety stop is not a problem. Unless there's a real risk of getting separated, or having someone who's struggling, I would not want to hold hand with someone. There's a...

    How to handle trash?

Could we get her opinion on removing something that's not plastic, eg an old tire? (let's not get technical about what's plastic and what's not) That'd be real cool!

    Really dumb question.

C'mon man, what he said is that he does not remember what gas he has used, why should he? At op, just check that your tank fits on the bcd (strap) and that it doesn't prevent inflation. Then you're good to go

    How to handle trash?

The Story of the Hummingbird One day a terrible fire broke out in a forest - a huge woodlands was suddenly engulfed by a raging wild fire. Frightened, all the animals fled their homes and ran out of the forest. As they came to the edge of a stream they stopped to watch the fire and they were...

    How to handle trash?

I have to say, I'm not sure if the "leave if as habitat" idea is really founded. On the one hand, sure, habitat. On the other, it doesn't belong there (and pollutes), and it feels to me that if that's the only habitat the animals can find, it means the animals don't belong there either...

    How to handle trash?

Hmm, that's an interesting one. Might fit indeed. Maybe I should have kept it . It's probably still lying there, but it's quite a drive. It's nothing spectacular anyway I guess, still fun. Probably something for the next people on that campsite to discuss. Don't the teeth look kind of...

    How to handle trash?

Heya, back again :). Went out on my usual summer dive site, drop down to 4 meters, start swimming around a bit, when I find a semi decomposed tin can. Well, let's grab it and I'll put it away neatly after the dive. Look up, "Hey, that's another one, and there, and there, and there", and my...

    Nitrox: Narcosis myth?

And nitrogen is the leading cause of narcosis... Yet replacing some N2 by O2 may not solve the problem. Also, deco for divers mentions this as well. And HPNS matters to some technical divers, not just saturation divers. It actually matters to any "bounce diver"

    Nitrox: Narcosis myth?

High Pressure Neurological Syndrome | DIVER magazine And a few others seem to disagree with you. I don't have access to "proper" resources at the moment, so I simply picked one of the first google hits which presents it.

Can you sink by blowing up your BC below 40m?
