What browser do YOU use (mostly) and why?

Firefox at work because IE refuses to connect even after complete reinstalls. IE at home, but I've since discovered that it becomes highly unstable when using 800mb RAM or more (Don't ask...I sometimes have many many browser sessions going) I'm starting to use Firefox at home to see if it has...

    No Steel! Huh? What?? Why???

I was just looking at a local technical diving site and while going through a list of requirements to dive with this particular outfit, I noticed something strange. For the travel cylinders, they state that they must be AL 4-12 litre cylinders. My question is why?

    Not diving related: job relocation

Well put Deefstef...I don't think I could have put it better myself. The only other piece of advice I can offer would be to pay us a visit, check out the job, housing, etc situation while you're here

Suunto D4 or Mares Nemo Excel?

I'm not sure if this might be your problem but my LDS instructor was telling me that the IRIS system doesn't work with Vista.

    Steel HP 100 vs AL80

Am I missing something here? I was always led to believe that a HP tank could be safely filled to approx 4300psi (300bar) while LP tanks were limited to approx 3300psi (230bar) Heck even my yoke fitted first stage is rated to 4000psi (276bar) by the manufacturer. Every advert I've ever...

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

Thats about half of what we get charged for the D6 here...

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

It's quite heavy as I said...If I'm going away diving for the weekend/week I'll leave my normal watch at home and wear the Stinger, but otherwise it lives in its box. If I had no other watch, then yes I'd wear the Stinger everyday, in fact I did till I got my current everyday watch :)

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

No problem...I'm sure that regardless of which computer you get, you'll be happy.

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

Yeah...the Stinger is heavy and very clunky for a woman. She might actually prefer the D4 esp if it is lighter because the Stinger is not light at all...weighs about 100g compared the the 50g of my fiance's Mares Nemo. The only real difference between the Stinger and the D4 is the Deep Stop...

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

I'm not 100% how the freemode on the D4 would handle being used in guage mode...someone with actual experience would need to clarify that. On the Stinger, guage mode starts as freemode and if the dive exceeds a few minutes switches automatically to guage mode and locks out the computer for 24...

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

I'll agree with maged_mmh I also use a Stinger (Have done so since 2001) and can see no reason to "upgrade" to a D4 or even a D6 The deep stops are something we pretty much do anyway. If I've done a particularly deep dive, I'll always do a stop for a couple minutes, usually in the 15-20m...

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

Unfortunately there are quite a number of Suunto Nay-sayers on the forum (There were algorithm problems in the D6 and D9 I think) and then there were a few suunto computers with faulty depth sensors, so to be totally honest, this is probably not the best place to get reviews. I've in general...

    Suunto D4 a good buy??

In my opinion, Suunto computers are a good buy and the D4 is quite good especially if you're not going to be using multiple gases on a dive (tek diving) They are a bit more expensive than similar models from the likes of Mares, but if you like the D4, go for it

    Question for Suunto users

It depends on the conditions. For ocean diving (any ocean diving) I leave all the settings at 0 For diving at altitude, I set it for the altitude, which where I live is A1 If the water is particularly cold, I'll set to P1 as well (usually winter dives)

    South Africa help

Not too sure about the Cape cage diving in sept (I've yet to do that) But September is a good time to go to Aliwal as you'll see plenty of raggies (sand tiger sharks) at that time. Hopefully the sea isn't too rough

    micro-trauma? negligible? normal?

The blood in your mucus sounds like you're not equalising often enough... The excess mucus is pretty normal

Suunto D4 or Mares Nemo Excel?

Cool. I only used the stinger as an example as its what I'm used to but the rest of the Suuto family is pretty similar

Suunto D4 or Mares Nemo Excel?

Well I have a Suunto Stinger and my Fiance has a Mares Nemo Sport and to be totally honest, for the casual dive, they both have more than enough functionality to last you many years. I'd personally say that if possible, get down to your LDS and see if you can have a demo on each, and then play...

    Your max depth!

51m in an educational chamber dive. 41m in the ocean - best dive ever as 3 hammerheads came in to circle the group a few times before moving off and just after that we saw a few bull sharks. 36m at altitude (about 1200m) on training dives

First two OW certification dives [LONG]

Well, if he was my instructor, I too would be livid. His point about you wearing your own gear is rubbish...yes, it might be different to what you've used till now, but why not let you try it out, get used to it while you're in the water with him to help you if you're not comfortable? His...
