I have a brand new local diver that's talking about buying a complete set-up and when he asked me for advice I asked him where he wanted to be in five years with regard to his diving career, as it were. He expressed an interest in deep/tech diving and so far seems receptive to the idea of...
"Hi there <sir or ma'am>! How long have you been diving?"
"20 years"
"Fantastic, how many dives do you have?"
"100"
"Hi there <sir or ma'am on the other side of the boat>! How long have you been diving?"
"Well, I just go certified a couple months ago."
"Congratulations! How...
I just wanted to make sure because I think it might be misleading to tell someone they can move right to the IDC after a month's diving when PADI standards clearly state that you have to be certified for 6 months before you can participate in the IDC and you have to be certified a year or an AI...
Psst... Jep, he also said stroke
Ber, I just can't imagine you being meek and mild when it comes to that kind of thing but I guess that ballsy doesn't just happen :D

So, when you deal with a propane tank, you kind of go "ahh... this feels better!"? Righty tighty lefty loosey is just a way of life so I know I have to think about a propane tank because I have to do it backwards.

Huh. I suppose I always thought I was just mimicking how I was taught to do something but since I'm a righty and it would be reasonable to assume that a righty is teaching me, it would never feel weird. I guess for a true demo, I'd have to have a lefty teach me something I didn't know how to...
I kinda think that if I was taught to do something I'd never done before from a lefty perspective, that's how I would do it because I wouldn't know any other way so I'm wondering how a lefty turns around something taught by a righty.

I forgot, you're still sorta new here :D
I managed to get DIR vs. DIL/DIW, paddle vs. splits and a reference to http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/surface-interval/50551-i-would-love-see-tank-explode.html all on the same page!

I guess the question I have (and I'm not trying to stir the pot, really I'm not) is if you're learning to do something for the very first time and it's not really something that requires one hand or the other to do anything dexterous that a non-dominant hand couldn't do, how do you end up doing...
I really shouldn't tell this story... but...
I was on a mixed dive/snorkel boat and we had a wacky chick on board that did the same thing Puffer Fish is describing with the hyperventilation and was all balled up and screaming "CHRISTOPHER REEVES CHRISTOPHER REEVES!!!" We kind of had no idea...
