    Everything done right......still a hit.....

You're right. Anything can happen and does. It is also true that most serious accidents include a component of human error as a root cause or as a contributing factor. I think people are try to suss out if there was anything avoidable that could save them or this person next time. The...

    Cousteau

There are several definitions of toque. The two I've used are: a chef's hat and a winter, knitted cap. The chef's hat is pronounced "toke" and the Canadian winter hat thing has always been pronounced "tuke" by my friends up north.

    Flights To/From Cozumel from Texas

I would try Continental. They have flights from Cancun or Coz every day. When we were there in November, they were flying three days direct Houston IAH/CZM. It may be more now...I would check.

    Help me pick my honeymoon!

July?? Didn't see that. Hmmm. Hurricane considerations are in order. (Change the date to November?? Oh, wait, that's Cincinnati. Hmph. Weatherwise, you're in a pickle.) Hawaii is supposed to be nice. Another friend went to Fiji and LOVED it. Great photos.

    Help me pick my honeymoon!

Congratulations. I would offer Cozumel or Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Reasons: Cozumel is very affordable and offers great diving. Playa is mostly all-inclusives, so it is more, but we honeymooned there and loved it. Three of our friends married the same year also honeymooned in Playa and loved...

What got you started in diving?

Short story of wives, husbands, friends, and a baby: The then pregnant wife of a friend of my husband's best friend was unable to go on a dive trip to Cancun for obvious reasons. My husband's best friend went in her stead - first dive trip and he loved it. He talked my husband into trying it; my...

    Dive/Hotel Packages for Cozumel.

I'm not certain, but I think that Christi of Blue XT Sea will also do a package that includes staying at the Caribe Blu.

do you intervene with cruel nature?

I've intervened: I saved tadpoles from frying in the sun after the puddle dries up by moving them to a plastic container. I move earthworms off the sidewalk and back to the grass (again, so they won't fry). I've rescued things from fire ants.

Why do Dive Shops Sell Beanies?!

I liked the beanie for utilitarian reasons. Like most scuba gear, I wouldn't be caught dead in it in a non-scuba situation. Come on: bellies bulging in wetsuits; floppy clown-feet in fins; a pacifier-like reg in my mouth...the silly looking beanie is the least of my worries.

    Newly certified and getting nervous

Hi. My husband and I were certified in October (after a long certification process due to all sorts of interuptions). Maybe I can help? 1. Motion sickness: we used the patch that you get from a 'script. My husband's fell off the first day, mine stuck the whole trip. I had no trouble. Husband...

Quest For A Proper Female Bcd???

I tried the Zena and it fit well. I bought the Zeagle Brigade (much like the Stiletto), since it fit just as well, had more attachment points for gear, and wouldn't have the "woman specific" issue when the time comes to get rid of it. The straps on the Zeagle's unisex models curved toward the...

    Anyone going to Coz 12/25-1/1

There is a lot of information on Caribe Blu, Blue Angel, and the island condition in general if you go to the Coz boards. We were there Nov 26-Dec 3 -- you need not worry. Blue Angel has boats and the hotel was fine and getting better every day. Have a great time. Wish we could join...

    decompression illness

I've e-mailed DAN before to get there input on why I was feeling "weird." They were extremely helpful and put my mind at ease. If you did have the bends, it is great to call them b/c you need their help. If you don't, but you feel weird, it is nice to get their input so you can sleep easier...

good place for divers and non-divers?

We found it affordable and we felt safe. (Live in the city, so all things are relative.) We stayed in a hotel, rather than an all-inclusive, it was much cheaper and encouraged us to sample the wonderful restaurants around town. There was enough to do that non-divers with a book in tow would have...

Dining in Mexico aka....Help me settle an argument

That should be enough. If not, there are ATMs and many places accept the ol' tarjeta de credito (credit card). We found a place on Calle 6 and Avenido 5 called La Candela. I had a big breakfast while Jeff had big lunch with coffee and coke for $8/U.S. total. The food was great there and a...

    Update from Caribe Blu-

We were there on November 26-December 3. It does not surprise me at all the hear that the pool will open soon. No one should worry...from the time we got there to the time we left the hotel went through a stunning transformation (new palapas, equipment deliveries every day, the pool repairs). It...

    Zeagle Zena

I tried the following Zeagle products: Zena, the Stiletto, and the Brigade. The Zena fit well, but so did the Stiletto and the Brigade. (I'm 5'9" and 160 lbs.) I think that tinier women may benefit more from the women's bcs, but I'm not certain. For me, the ability to size the straps...

What bcd fits more muscular build (broader shoulders smaller waist)

I have the Zeagle Brigade from ScubaToys and my husband has the Zeagle Stiletto. Both have similar features -- the Brigade just had a few extras that I liked. Both fit well on my hard-to-fit self due to the different sizes in the waist and shoulders. We took a day and drove from Houston to...
