Martha's Quarry closed for a while??

Has anyone heard the latest on the closing of Martha's quarry? I think Fred closed the place to blast out a new ramp leading down to the water. I know many of the area dive instructors are having to hold classes elsewhere. Not a good thing in these days of expensive gas prices to have to...

    A weird smell...

Since the original poster got their question answered may I ask what other sorts of tastes or smells divers have noticed from time to time? I've heard before that you can sense some things in the water, though mask and reg stay in place. Alll I've ever experienced is the non-smell of good...

    Disney/Epcot Dive

Is this a special event? I was under the impression that they usually did not have Epcot Dive Quest dives that started at 9:00. If they start at 9 with a Dive Quest program they'll keep you busy till nearly midnight or so and there won't be anything going on in the park anyway.

    Aluminum 100

I use em, I like em. They don't mess up my trim. Mine are neutral at near empty and don't require any extra weight. I actually use less weight than with an AL 80. They're heavy to lug around, but I'm not taking them backpacking, I'm taking them diving.

    OW classes - Things I wish I learned ?

Fin Kicks, definitely. We were taught to be careful not to silt up things and bang into or touch coral for the coral's sake as well as ours. But a good section on the usefulness of various fin strokes would have certainly gone a long way to help with that. I felt that control of your vertical...

    What is a clear photo???

What ISO setting did you use? Seems like I'm noticing a little "noise" in these that give it a little grainy, fuzzy appearance.

Mold in mask-how long before it explodes?

I don't guess a thread titled, "I'd love to see a mask explode" will get as much attention as that other well known thread. Addressing the problem though -- How about letting the mask dry thoroughly and then just spot treating it with a Q-tip or equivalent, BRIEFLY, with a little bleach...

    Sea Hunt

Well, I'm most of the way through the first season of Sea Hunt on DVD. I'm watching an episode called, "The Shipwreck" this evening Mike announces, " I was foolishly diving alone." :rofl3: What's funny is that in 90% of the diving scenes previous to this he dives alone. Just before...

Give me an option to turn OFF these ads, PLEASE?

I don't see any ads. Not on this page or the main page or any other. I must be doing something right (or wrong??)?

    Martha's In September

MTSS (Middle Tennessee Scuba and Swim) in the Franklin -Cool Springs area off I-65 south of Nashville should also have tickets for Martha's Quarry. And it is on the way up for a lot of you 'Bama folks. As was said, call ahead to make sure the dive shop has a supply of tickets. Martha's has...

New Diver -1st trip was a beast!

We don't want the next post with your name in it to be about you instead of by you and appearing in the "Accidents and Incidents" forum.

New Diver -1st trip was a beast!

Pasley: Thanks for so articulately saying what I wanted to say. Buoyancy, narcosis, silt, disorientation, shortened bottom times -- all pretty scary when coupled with inexperience. None of which have any relationship to how much of a water-baby a person has been.

Can you tell if a reg is new?

Lipstick stains are a dead giveaway. Seriously, I'd not trust it unless it is as herman says. In the box with all paperwork.

Diving with Braces or other ortho D work?

I had them as an adult and had no problem. Mouthpiece certainly fits much better without them. I can't see standard braces or Invisilign creating any significant problem. As long as you keep your reg in your mouth while underwater that glittering metal shouldn't attract the barracuda.

    Vicious carnivorous fish attack

Cue the "Jaws" music. I've been contacted by the Discovery Channel for an interview regarding their upcoming "Panfish Week" series. Edge-of-your-seat near-death accounts from survivors. Do I need to report this to DAN for their statistical database?

    Vicious carnivorous fish attack

Well I was out at the quarry this morning, lying on the bottom, playing "dead",waiting for some Rescue Diver students to find me as they ran their search pattern. And the bluegill were surrounding me as usual. Some poised in front of my mask as if looking at their reflection like they so...

Caught a weird sea creature while fishing....does anyone know what it is?

Here's one (sorry the color balance is off) in his hidey hole at Roatan. If I successfully attached the file. This one matched the color of the coarse, white sand on the bottom.
